Odds and Ends 10-6-10

More miscellaneous odds and end pieces of information that I have collected over the past week

I have updated all four of the Montana State and Montana recruiting lists. That includes updating some commits and offers. Below are some of the football players out of the lists. It really looks like the Bobcats are looking to sign a couple high quality running backs and the Griz are really looking at an amazing number of high quality quarterback.

Montana State Football Recruits
RB Jarad Leaf 6-2 225 Martinez HS Alhambra CA
RB Tyler Middleton 5-11 180 Midland HS Midland TX – offered
RB DeAndre Jones 6-0 185 Killeen HS Harker Heights TX
OG Steven Oliver 6-2 250 Hamilton HS Chandler AZ

University of Montana Football Recruits
QB Garret Krstich 6-4 215 La Costa Canyon HS Encinitas CA

  • Women basketball – I believe both the Montana State women’s program and the Lady Griz have started official practices for the 2010-11 season. The Bobcats started this past Sunday and I believe the lady Griz started at the beginning of this week. The men’s programs are not allowed to start practices until October 15th.

Odds & Ends (9-13-10)

More Odds and ends from last week, and stick around to the end of the post where I unveil a new feature in Odds and Ends.

  • As I reported last week Bobcat head coach Brad Huse and Grizzly Wayne Tinkle accompanied by recruiting assistants are out on the recruiting trail meeting with recruits and their parents at their homes as well as checking out work outs and talking to coaches. As a contact period this is the time when the coaches have the most latitude in recruiting and communicating with prospects. I have reports of coaches making appearances in California, Arizona, Colorado and Wisconsin.
  • I had a person contact the site and tell me that Colorado point guard Jordon Gregory will be visiting the University of Montana campus this week end. This source is not one of my regulars, so I am trying to confirm.
  • I heard last week that Wayne Tinkle has offered point guard Mitchell Farr from Racine Case high school in Wisconsin. Along with Montana, High Point, Jacksonville, and Rhode Island have also offered Farr. I hear Montana either have or will shortly have a home visit with Farr and his family.
  • I have added 2 players to MSU football and two to UM Football recruiting lists. Additionally I have updated a few players who I have been told been offered as well as a few players who have committed else where.

New 2011 Recruit Lists

I have spent a fair amount of time creating and updating them Montana State and University of Montana recruiting list for both basketball and football. Like always you can find the lists by clicking on the “recruiting lists” tab at the top of the page, just below the “Mslacat’s Blog” header. That will take you to the recruiting list page and then you will see links to different recruiting list pages.

This year I have not included the other Big Sky basketball teams’ pages. They may make a come back, I do not know at this point. They did not get much traffic so I am not sure if they were worth the trouble.

I have been asked on a few occasions on why I do not include list for the Bobcat Women basketball or the Lady Griz recruiting lists. I wish I could, but quite frankly the list would be rather short and outdated. There is simply not enough information out there, which is worth posting a list.

Football Recruiting: Big Week End

I have heard that the coming week end (January 15th and 16th) is big week ends for both the Bobcat and grizzly football programs.

I have heard that quite a few high priority out of state football prospects will be visiting Montana State this week end including Jared Jones, R.J. McGill and William Poehls. I also expect a contingent from Texas to also trip this week end. Typically each year both MSU and UM will schedule as many Montana prospects as they can for the same week end. I have not been able to confirm it but I believe the big Montana recruiting week end will be next week end (January 22nd and 23rd)

I have also heard from sources that Montana also is entertaining a large contingent of high priority prospects this week end but I have not been able to confirm any particular athletes who will be in. Like wise I do not know for sure when their Montana week-end is (maybe this week –end?), but given the coaching change I could see that they might not be so concerned about bring in players based on where they live. They might be more interested in just getting them in.

Recruiting Lists update

Yes I have finally gotten around to updating the recruiting list again.  I am sorry but the table function in WordPress can be a royal pain in the butt to edit one it has been created.  Fortunately I have found Microsoft’s Windows Live writer which makes the whole process a lot easier and less time consuming to edit.  Unfortunately it does not help me with my recruiting spreadsheet/tables already created, I have to continue to used WordPress to edit those.  Next years Recruiting lists though should be a breeze to update once I create them.

Recruit list updated

With the Basketball early signing period ending about a week and half ago I have put some time into updating all of the recruiting list, as best I know.

In basketball all of the Big Sky teams pages have been updated with both the men’s and women’s letter of intent signees for each school as well as updating other players on each schools list that may have signed with other schools.

On the football side I got a little behind with football prospects but I believe they are all updated now. The one thing I have noticed since the last time I updated is how many more quartback’s seem to be popping up on the list this month. Montana State also seems to add quite a few Offensive line men to their list since the last time I updated the list.

Signing day Odds and ends

mslacatlogoI really have not done an odds and ends post in quite some time, mainly because I have not been coming across enough little pieces of info that would warrant a whole column, but here is one.

  • I forgot to mention that a few other Montana high school athletes should be signing letter of intents with Division teams today, Namely Josh Huestis with the Stanford men’s program and Jordan Phau with Weber State women’s program. If I have missed someone please let me know.
  • To my surprise Libby’s 6-1 forward Jackie Mee will not sign with a d-1 team this fall. In my humble (and sometime wrong) opinion she is at least as talented as some of the Montana women who will be signing today. Before I get hate mail this is not a knock on any one, but an acknowledgment that Mee is a very good player.casey-trujeque
  • There was a nice article on Bobcat recruit /Signee Casey Trujeque and two other of his Price high school teammates were featured in a LA Times article yesterday. The main thrust of the article was about how tiny Price high school will have three players signing letters of intent today with Division 1 schools. One thing to remember though, while Price has a student population of about 100, for some odd reason a lot of the better high school students in the area seem to find themselves at Price high school. Imagine that!

For the record: Price’s, Richard Solomon and Allen Crabbe will sign with California and Casey Trujeque will sign with Montana State.

Recruiting Database Updated – Finally

bbhoopJust to let you know I have finally got around to updating the 11 recruiting databases on my blog. This includes the basketball recruiting list for each Big Sky men’s teams as well as a recruiting list for Montana State and Montana football programs. Just to reminder, the Montana and Montana State basketball list are the lists that I have spent the most time cultivating. Then comes the Montana State and Montana football programs. The other Big Sky lists are basically as I come across information I jot it down, so take them with a grain of salt.
