Odds and Ends 10-6-10

More miscellaneous odds and end pieces of information that I have collected over the past week

I have updated all four of the Montana State and Montana recruiting lists. That includes updating some commits and offers. Below are some of the football players out of the lists. It really looks like the Bobcats are looking to sign a couple high quality running backs and the Griz are really looking at an amazing number of high quality quarterback.

Montana State Football Recruits
RB Jarad Leaf 6-2 225 Martinez HS Alhambra CA
RB Tyler Middleton 5-11 180 Midland HS Midland TX – offered
RB DeAndre Jones 6-0 185 Killeen HS Harker Heights TX
OG Steven Oliver 6-2 250 Hamilton HS Chandler AZ

University of Montana Football Recruits
QB Garret Krstich 6-4 215 La Costa Canyon HS Encinitas CA

  • Women basketball – I believe both the Montana State women’s program and the Lady Griz have started official practices for the 2010-11 season. The Bobcats started this past Sunday and I believe the lady Griz started at the beginning of this week. The men’s programs are not allowed to start practices until October 15th.

  • Jamie Stewart – A couple days ago posted that the Bobcats received a commitment from Jamie Stewart of Henry Ford Junior college. Here is a little more info on Stewart and Henry Ford JC. HFJC was ranked most of last year in top 5 of the NJCAA division two team. Most of the key players off last year’s team will be returning and they will most likely be ranked very high when the preseason polls come out. I did not have an updated list on the schools that were actively recruiting Stewart when he signed with the Bobcats. As I understand it he held offers from UTEP, Duquesne, Central Michigan, University of Detroit, Bowling Green, Montana State and G Washington when he committed this week end with quite a few other schools were also interested but had not offered when he committed.
  • Brendan Walton – Last week I mentioned that the Bobcats were recruiting Brendan Walton a 6-3 junior college prospect from Casper JC. Before I could write anything up he committed to the Bobcats, but the Bobcats of Northern Texas. Northern Arizona, Weber State, Sac State, and Northern Colorado were also recruiting Walton. I do not believe the Bobcats had offered him.
  • Mitchell Far – I have heard that the Griz were trying to arrange to have Mitchell Far from Case high school in Wisconsin in but that the trip was cancelled. I do not know by whom, but with the commitment of Jordan Gregory it is not unexpected.
  • Seth Hinrichs – Another Griz recruit who was talked about as coming in for a visit was small forward Seth Hinrichs of MacCray high school in Minnesota. He committed to the University of Lafayette this week end. I do not believe the Griz offered him.
