Bobcat recruit: Stephon Maxwell

I have heard that the Bobcat Basketball staff is recruiting Stephon Maxwell of Taft high school in California. Maxwell is an athletic 6-5 small forward prospect who saw limited time last season but is catching the attention of scouts this spring.

This is the time of year when a lot of the prospects for next recruiting cycle have coming out parties at AAU and other event across the country. This is especially true for kids who play on Nationally ranked teams like Taft high school. As the senior take their their games to their game to the college level the next generation of players start to emerge and catch the eye of recruiters. Some of these schools are absolutely stacked with talent and their back up would be four year starters on a lot of Montana high school teams. The problem that arises is that as these players make an impact on the AAU scene many college scouts/recruiters be trying to quickly identify which of these “sleepers” are true D-1 prospects and which many not be. Identifying these sleepers early and getting on them could give you an advantage as they get closer to the sign day. Maxwell fits the definaition of a sleeper very well.

This past season Taft high school had three players who either have or are expected to sign with D-1 schools including Bryce Jones who was rated as a top 20 prospect for 2010. For 2011 season Taft has 5 seniors (to be) players who are ranked in the top 100 player on the west coast according to Clark Francis, Editor & Publisher of The HOOP SCOOP magazine/website. Maxwell is current number 82 on that list.
