Prospect Update: Jordan Salley

This is the first of two updates on a couple of players who committed Montana State and Montana this past December. Recently SportSection.com created a list of who they view is the top 50 high school players in the state of California. Among the players listed were Montana State commit Jordan Salley and Montana commit Kareem Jamar.

The thing thought to remember both of these guys committed after the fall signing period so they are locked into playing for either program by anything other than the word of player and the school coaches.

Here is what SportSection.com had to say about Jordan Salley.

21. Jordan Salley, 6-6, 4/5, La Verne Lutheran

Long and rangy, despite standing just 6-foot, 6-inches, Salley has a large wingspan that he uses well in finishing and gaining put back points on the offensive end of the court. Averaged 16.5 points and more than 11 rebounds per contest as a junior.

Prospect Update: Kareem Jamar

This is the second of two updates on a couple of players who committed Montana State and Montana this past December. Recently SportSection.com created a list of who they view is the top 50 high school players in the state of California. Among the players listed were Montana State commit Jordan Salley and Montana commit Kareem Jamar.

Here is what SportSection.com had to say about Kareem Jamar.

34. Kareem Jamar, 6-5, 3/2, Westchester HS (Los Angeles)

Jamar is arguably the best player on the best team in California. His basketball IQ is very high. Scouts love his ability to absolutely shut down opponents on the perimeter. He is also a skilled rebounder and scorer. Jamar committed to Montana.

Bobcat FB recruit: Lexington Smith

Both Rivals.com and Scout.com are reporting that the Bobcat football program will be hosting Lexington Smith from East Denver high school in Colorado, this week end. Smith is a 6-4 260 pound defensive end / defensive tackle prospect who might be flying a little under the radar right now.

Smith is a two time first team 5A Central Metro League as a defencive tackle and offensive line man, as well as a two time All State 5A honorable mention selection. Despite this his recruitment has been hampered a little bit by and injury that kept him out of 3 games this season.

Smith is has great size and strength for the D-1AA level and great athletisism to boot. From what I have read some think he could also be a great interior Offensive line at the college level because of his good lateral movement and quickness.

Sarah Strand named POW

I am a little late on this but I thought I should make sure I mention it.

Montana State women’s junior basketball player Sarah Strand was named Big Sky women’s player of the week for the week ending 1-17-10. Strand had an outstanding all around game against Sacramento State tallying 17 points 16 rebounds and 7 blocked shots while shooting 54% from the field. After the game I thought that it was a performance worthy of a POW nod, depending on what the other schools did, but what worried me is that the Bobcat’s only played one game last week and that can sometimes help or hurt. I am very happy though to see Sarah get the award because that was a tremendous game, where she got it done in on both ends of the court and not only scored but did just about every thing right. This is Strands second POW award of the season but the first she won out right. Congrats.

Bobcats Women recruit: Kalli Durham

This should probably come as no surprise to any Montana State basketball fan but the I have heard that the Montana State women’s basketball program is recruiting Kalli Durham of Miles City here in Montana. Kali is a 5-8 guard prospect. She plays the 3-4 at Miles City but is projected as a shooting guard in college.

Now for all of you Montana State fans this next part should be fairly obvious, but I will cover it none the less. Some of may want to skip this next paragraph.

Blue and gold as well as college basketball runs deep in Kalli blood lines. Her grand father played basketball for Montana State as well as she is the niece of Bobcat hall of famer as a player and coach Mick Durham. Like wise her cousin Casey (Mick’s son) also played for the Bobcat basketball program a few years back. Kalli’s father is also a former college player as well as head coach at Miles Community college and Western Montana College in Dillon. He is the current athletic Director for Western Montana College.

Now that we have covered her Bobcat family tree we can get back to her.

Kalli is a junior and in her 3rd year as a starter for Miles City. She averaged 10 points a game as freshman and 17 points as a sophomore. With the season about half over she is leading Miles city in scoring at 17 points a game. Her scoring has picked up a bit l=as of late with scoring outputs of 27 vs. Hardin, 26 vs. Laurel, and 23 vs. Broadus. She is on pace to set the all time Miles City (technically called Custer County High school) scoring record by the end of this season, and will have her senior campaign next year to further improve on that.

Bobcats recruit: Marc Mack

Marc Mack in white and yellow

I have heard that Brad Huse and his Montana State basketball program is recruiting Marc (although I have see it also spelled mark) Mack from Illinois. Mack currently is not playing basketball this year but is attending high school and practicing at Morgan Park high school where he hopes to be able to play this season. Last season he played at Providence-St. Mel in Illinois but transfer to Morgan Park after his parents separated. Currently he is caught up in a transfer rule that he is hoping to over turn.

Last season for Providence-St. Mel high school he played along side Phillip Jackson a 6-9 forward / center that currently is getting a lot of interest from schools like Kentucky and Illinois, to form a dominating front line. Mack is a 6-6ish (I have also seen him listed at 6-7 but this is most likely closer to the truth) combo forward. I do not have their exact stats but I am told both Mack and Jackson averaged a double double last season in rebounds and points. Mack averaged close to 15 points and 10 rebounds a game. Last season Jackson and Mack were named the best front court duo in the Illinois 2A by one internet prep site.

Bobcat FB recruit: Darien Johnson

I have heard that the Bobcat football staff is recruiting Darien Johnson of Bishop Amat high school in La Puente, California. Depending on whom you talk to the 5-9 175 Johnson is either a wide receiver or defensive back prospect. He is an explosive athlete who has played most of the skilled position save quarter back for Bishop Amat high school.

Out of the back field he had 19 carries this season for 109 yards. As a receiver he had 32 receptions for a total of 382 yards.

As a defensive back he had 35 solo tackles and 19 assists for a total of 54 total tackles, and 3 interceptions one that was returned 79 yards for a touch down.

On special teams he 8 punt returns for an average 21 yards a return and 1 touch down. As a kick off return man he was even more dangerous returning 14 kickoffs for a 36 yard per return average with 3 of them going for touch downs from the 85, 90 and 99 yards.
