Signing day Odds and ends

mslacatlogoI really have not done an odds and ends post in quite some time, mainly because I have not been coming across enough little pieces of info that would warrant a whole column, but here is one.

  • I forgot to mention that a few other Montana high school athletes should be signing letter of intents with Division teams today, Namely Josh Huestis with the Stanford men’s program and Jordan Phau with Weber State women’s program. If I have missed someone please let me know.
  • To my surprise Libby’s 6-1 forward Jackie Mee will not sign with a d-1 team this fall. In my humble (and sometime wrong) opinion she is at least as talented as some of the Montana women who will be signing today. Before I get hate mail this is not a knock on any one, but an acknowledgment that Mee is a very good player.casey-trujeque
  • There was a nice article on Bobcat recruit /Signee Casey Trujeque and two other of his Price high school teammates were featured in a LA Times article yesterday. The main thrust of the article was about how tiny Price high school will have three players signing letters of intent today with Division 1 schools. One thing to remember though, while Price has a student population of about 100, for some odd reason a lot of the better high school students in the area seem to find themselves at Price high school. Imagine that!

For the record: Price’s, Richard Solomon and Allen Crabbe will sign with California and Casey Trujeque will sign with Montana State.

Odds and Ends – 7/28/09

troy huff

I have some miscellaneous pieces of info that I thought I would share again. Before I begin though I need to point out something that I do not think is clear as I thought it was, I tend to try to link these “Odds and ends” post to either the source material when I can or to previous posts in my Blogs. The links are not that obvious I guess but look for the underlined words. The neither font nor color is all that different from non linked text. I hope that helps.

  • Troy Huff of Brookfield Academy in Wisconsin, who was offered by the Griz coaching staff when he attended the Griz basketball camp in early July, has received his second and third scholarship offers from North Dakota and North Dakota State the past week. Huff is a 6-4 combo guard who has been having a great July playing for the Playground Elite AAU team.

Bobcat Recruit: Justin Omogun

omogunheadI have heard the Bobcat coaching staff is recruiting rising star Justin Omogun. Omogun is originally from New York where he played his sophomore year, but moved to Spring Valley high school near Las Vegas for his junior year. He is listed at 6-7 or 6-8 depending on where you look and played the center and power forward position in high school.

During his sophomore season at Prospect Heights high school in New York he averaged 8 points and 8 rebounds a game. It sounds like, though, he has really taken a liking to basketball in Nevada given that his high school stats are listed as 22.5 points and 15.7 rebounds and 4 blocks a game at Spring Valley. I think those stats are a little inflated, as best I can tell looking over 8-9 box scores it appears that 16 points and 10 rebounds might be closer, ……. but who knows.   The one thing I know for sure he is a double double, guy who can also collect block shoots in a hurray.
