Griz MBB Spring 2011 Malte Krame

I heard the Griz were actively recruiting Kramer last December and January. A lot depends on whether he makes it through the NCAA clearing house. He is an odd recruiting for the Griz because I figured that would go with a true Big man to replace Qvale but Kramer is a talent and could make a big impact at the Big Sky level so if they had an in go for the talent.

Malte Kramer 6-7 combo forward
Cuesta junior college
20 points, 2 assists, 1 steal 5 rebounds
45% field goal, 38% 3pt field goal, and 83% free-throw
Year of eligibility: 2 years

Recruiting Notes: Kramer is an import from Germany, who did not receives clearance by the NCAA to play D-1 ball in the fall. I am told that it is expected that he would be cleared by the NCCAA clearing house this winter. I have not heard if this is I have not heard whether this has happened. If he is cleared he will have three year plus a possible redshirt at the next level. If not he will need to return to the JC ranks for next year. Most schools are not aware that he is expected to be a qualifier this year. If he does get qualified his recruitment could take off.

Griz MBB Spring 2011 Recruiting

I am going to look at the Griz men’s basketball recruiting for the spring 2011 regular period. The Griz signed two players last fall which gave them 14 scholarships if all the under class-men return next year. That is 1 scholarship over the 13 maximum allowed by the NCAA. This means that at least one scholarship under class-man will not be returning for next year, if they ended their recruiting with the fall class. If they sign another player this spring that will just mean that one player would have to leave. That is why it is not that surprising to see them not extremely active this winter with the 2011 class.

Still though just about every D-1 program losses at least one underclassmen player for one reason or another so the Griz have to keep their fingers in the 2011 class for insurance.

I have heard that Griz are active with the 2011 class but the names have been slim in coming. Hear are the two I have heard.

Michael Hale 5-9 point guard
North Idaho Junior College

Griz MBB Fall signees update

I have been away for awhile, but do not take it personally I am just lazy. Not a lot happening on the Griz recruiting front that I can tell, but I hear they are still somewhat active in the 2011 spring recruiting sweepstakes.

Just to review, Montana men’s team only has one senior this year in Brian Qvale. This spring they signed two high school guards in Kevin Henderson of Auburn high school in Washington and Jordan Gregory of Pueblo East/ That leaves the Griz one scholarship over going into the spring recruiting period, so it is not that surprising that the Griz are not that active in the 2011 class. Still I do have a couple names that I hear the Griz are looking at, so it sounds like they are hedging their bets incase more than one player “decides” to leave. I will get into who the player are in my next post but in the rest of this post I want to look at Henderson and Gregory and their senior season.

Now if you have been following my Twitter account you will already know much of this info.

Bobcat MBB Spring 2011 Jarrell Crayton

Here is the second prospect from Sheridan JC that the Bobcats have shown an interest in this fall.  Sheridan should – grades willing- put 4 player off this years team in D-1 ball by next fall, and have been ranked in the top 25 most of the season.

Jarrell Crayton 6-7 power forward
Sheridan JC WY
15 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 61% field goal, 32% 3pt field goal, 68% free-throw
Years of eligibility: 2 years

Recruiting Notes: Crayton had plenty of D-1 interest out of high school but had to go the JC route and enrolled at Sheridan. I have heard that the Bobcat coaching staff has expressed an interest him but I am not sure if the are actively recruiting him or offered him. He is currently getting a fair amount of D-1 interest right now with Fresno St, Oral Roberts, South Dakota State, Boise State, Idaho, and Ohio considered to be the favorites.

Bobcat MBB Spring 2011 Victor Bermudez

Final high school recruit for now.

Victor Bermudez 6-3 shooting guard
University Park Academy Prep Houston Texas
Years of eligibility: years

Recruiting Notes: Bermudez is another interesting case. He played his senior year of basketball in 2009-10 with Chris McCall at Cheyenne high school in Nevada. He did not get a lot of D-1 interest so he went to a prep school in Houston Texas, with a fellow Cheyenne teammate. Bermudez has finished at U. Park Academy and is d-1 eligible. Since October he has telling people and posting on Twitter that he intends on playing D-1 ball at Montana State with McCall and Davion Pearson.

Player Summary: Bermudez is a very athletic smooth player who is a very good shooter especially in transition game. He can pull up on the run and hit the three point or mid range shot on a dime, or take it to the whole. Scouts love his length and size and he is projected to be a very good defender at the D-1 level.

Bobcat MBB Spring 2011 Matt Glover

I am now going to go over the recruits that we are looking at from Sheridan Junior College in Wyoming. There are two prospects that I have heard the Bobcats are looking at for the 2011 spring recruiting class, and then there are 2-3 other player who may or may-not have been placed there by the Bobcat staff, who will not be eligible until 2012.

Matt Glover 6-4 shooting guard/ small forward
Sheridan JC WY
13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assist, 1 steal, 39% field goal, 30% 3pt field goal 71% free-throw
Years of eligibility: 3 years

Recruiting Notes: Glover was a highly recruited high school senior last year who transcripts were all messed up. It was clear that he would get an answer from the NCAA Clearing house about his eligibility this fall so he enrolled at Sheridan. I had one source tell me that the Bobcat coaches placed him at Sheridan, other say no. The Bobcat coaches have been recruiting him for awhile. The Bobcats are/were in pretty good with him but San Diego, Fresno St, Idaho, Santa Clara, and San Francisco have also been heavily involved. Last week he was cleared by the NCAA to play next year for a D-1 club and his recruitment has since taken off. Iowa, Rutgers, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Creighton, Washington State, Clemson and Boston College are now getting involved. Again he is a “we will see” prospect.

Player Summary: Glover is a true point guard who can shoot well enough that he can play the shooting guard spot. He is also athletic and strong enough that he can swing to the small forward if needed. He capable of big scoring nights having hit 30 a couple times this season. The fact he is 6-4, point and will have three year eligibility is what has all the big schools excited.

Bobcat MBB Spring 2011 Alex Carmon

We are going to look at a few high school prospects and then we are going to get to Sheridan Junior College where it is rumored the Bobcat coaches are involved with quite a number of players.

Alex Carmon 6-3 shooting guard
L. B. Polytechnic HS, CA
10points 3 rebounds
Year of eligibility: 4 years + redshirt

Recruiting Notes: Carmon stats are not world breakers but he plays on a team that has been ranked as the #1 team in the country for most of the high school season and features a bevy of future D-1 players on its roster. As many as 12 D-1 schools ranging from Pac-10 schools to Big Sky schools have shown an interest, but I am not sure if he has been offered yet.

Player Summary: Right now he is considered to be an undersized small forward who will need to add a deep perimeter game to play the guard spot. He is a slasher and hustler who never stops moving. Great around the basket and has a very good mid range game. Very good athlete for the Big Sky level.
