July Evaluation Period: Bobcat Men

casey-trujeque

With the basketball evaluation period underway and the basketball offices in Missoula and Bozeman looking a lot like ghost towns with the exception of the lone coach who gats to stay home and man the phones, I thought it might be interesting to look at what the coaching staffs might be looking for this July. I will look at the four Montana D-1 programs in four posts. The first will be Brad Huse’s Bobcats.

It appears that Brad is half way there to completing his recruiting class, with two commits already. The Bobcat will graduate returning starters 2G Will Bynum, and PG Marquis Navarre, potential starter PF Brandon Johnson, and role player PF Cameron Henderson. This will open up four scholarships for the coaches to work with. It appears, from my vantage point that Huse is only looking at high school kids, which could change to a JC player or two in the spring if he does not find the high schoolers he is looking for this fall. I would, also assume the Cats will have a very balance class spread across all five spots on the floor.

Odds and Ends – 7/06/09

MATTMILLER4_21150

Time for some miscellaneous odds and ends from last week.

  • Matt Miller was featured in articles in both the Rivals Arizona State site an d the Scout Boise State site. Both sites claim Miller has narrowed his college list to Arizona State, Boise State, Stanford, Oregon and Oregon State and has taken unofficial visits to all five out of eleven offers. Between the two articles the positions of wide receiver, tight end, linebacker and safety were all mentioned as possible college positions. They also indicate he is not in a hurry to make his choice.

Bobcat recruit: Brad Waldow

waldow2

The Bobcats are recruiting northern California big man Brad Waldow. Waldow is an emerging 6-8 (I have also seen him listed at 6-9) 235 pound, power forward / center prospect from Ponderosa high school Shingle Springs California near Sacramento.

Ponderosa has recorded 47-10 over the past two seasons with Waldow starting at center, and is known for its patient offensive attack and stifling defense. Waldow’s teammate 6-8 Steve Lackey was named Sierra Valley Conference MVP while Waldow was first team.
