More info Bobcat Commit: Jamie Stewart

Last week it was reported that the Bobcats received a commit from Jamie Stewart from Henry Ford Junior College in Michigan. I have done a little more research and talked to a few people about Mr. Stewart and thought I would do an update Mr. Stewart.

From the very few people I talked in Michigan, to a person almost all were surprised that he committed to the Bobcats when he did. Most thought he had mid to high major talent and thought he sign at a higher level.

Before he signed with the Bobcats he had offered on the table from UTEP, Duquesne, Central Michigan, University of Detroit, Bowling Green, and George Washington, but a lot of other schools showing a great deal of interest.

Below is his highlight reel for 20009-09 at Livonia Clarenceville High School and the second one is his 2009-10 high light reel from Henry Ford Junior College. What stuck out to me was the improvement in his three point game from over a twelve month period.

Bobcat Recruit Reggie Shaw

I have heard the Bobcats Men’s program is recruiting Reggie Shaw from Snow junior college in Utah. Shaw is a 6-3 shooting guard who played his high school ball at Desert Pines high school in Las Vegas Nevada.

At Desert Pines Shaw averaged 14 points a game as a junior and 15 points a game as a senior. I do not have any other stats for his high school years but as I understand it he really improved or added a solid three point shot between his junior and senior year. For his efforts he was named to the All-Sunrise Region and Northeast Division first team both his junior and senior year. He was also ranked as one of the Top 10 (7th to be exact) 2009 basketball prospects in the state Nevada by Scout.com and a top 20 2009 basketball prospects in the nation also by Scout.com. ESPN gave him an 86 rating.

At Snow Junior College, last year Shaw played with current Griz Jordan Wood and averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists while shooting 41% from the field, 34% from beyond the three point arc and 68% from the free throw line.

More miscellaneous odds and end pieces of information that I have collected over the past week

I have updated all four of the Montana State and Montana recruiting lists. That includes updating some commits and offers. Below are some of the football players out of the lists. It really looks like the Bobcats are looking to sign a couple high quality running backs and the Griz are really looking at an amazing number of high quality quarterback.

Montana State Football Recruits

RB Tyler Middleton 5-11 180 Midland HS Midland TX – offered

OG Steven Oliver 6-2 250 Hamilton HS Chandler AZ

University of Montana Football Recruits
QB Garret Krstich 6-4 215 La Costa Canyon HS Encinitas CA

  • Women basketball – I believe both the Montana State women’s program and the Lady Griz have started official practices for the 2010-11 season. The Bobcats started this past Sunday and I believe the lady Griz started at the beginning of this week. The men’s programs are not allowed to start practices until October 15th.

Bobcats get commit from Jamie Stewart

Will Holden of the Bozeman Chronicle is reporting that the Bobcats have received a commitment from Jamie Stewart of Henry Ford Junior College in Michigan. Stewart is a 6-4 shooting guard / small forward who prepped out of Livonia Clarenceville high school in the Detroit area. I believe he originally signed with the University of Detriot out of high school before he went the junior college route.

As a 6-2 senior at Livonia Clarenceville Stewart averaged 27 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists per game, and was a leading candidate for Michigan’s Mr. Basketball award.

Last year as a freshman at Henry ford JC Stewart averaged 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists while shooting 58% from the field, 32% three point range, and 70% from the free throw line. For his efforts Stewart was named All-MCCAA First Team, First Team Region Twelve, and third team All NJCAA National team for the 2009-10 season. Additionally he was named a NJCAA Division 2 Men’s Basketball Pre-Season All-American for the up coming season.

In high school Stewart was known primarily as a scorer, having put up multiple games of over thirty points. He could score the ball in multiple ways but was a little streaky out past the three point arc. He was rated as a two star prospect by both Rivals and Scout in 2009. In college he has improved his three points shooting quite a bit and has become a good defender also.

Stewart made his official visit to Montana State on September 17-18, and was the Bobcat coaching staffs primary JC target for this year. They were looking at a couple of other guards but they brought Stewart in first and waited for his answers. He should help soften the scoring loss in the front court next year when the Bobcats will lose Eric Rush and Danny Piepoli.
