It’s on!!

I love a good Cat/Griz joke, when its clever and well thought out. I a not really fond of the F@#* the Griz or F@#* the Cats type jokes if that is all there is to it. This is the closest I have seen to one of those jokes that I actually liked. This was sent to me by a Griz Fan, but living in Missoula this is not typical of the jokes and/or cartoons I have gotten from my Griz friend just before a Cat/Griz game, but a good joke is a good joke so if it is at the Bobcats or grizzlies expense, if it is clever you have to appreciate it.

You got to love Bobcat / Griz Games

volleyballI want to start this post, right off the bat, by apologizing to the Montana State Women’s Volleyball team as well as the Lady Griz team for my obvious ignorance of their sport.

Up until last night, I have to admit, I was pretty clueless about the current state of affairs of Women’s volleyball in the State of Montana, but boy I watched a great Bobcat Griz rivalry match here in Missoula last night. I want to tell you there is nothing like a good Bobcat / Griz match to get the heart a pumping, and the adrenalin flowing. The thing I keep forgetting is that the rivalry for true Bobcat or Griz fans runs deep and it really does not take much more than these two teams getting together to bring that out in a true Bobcat of Griz.

Earlier this week I was told my daughter and her Super Skipper troupe had a performance at the half time of a Lady Griz volleyball match this Friday (volleyball teams please reference the first paragraph of this post). We got to the fieldhouse at the 6:30 designated time to get everything ready and a few more routine practices in, when I noticed a few Bobcat sweat shirts coming through the doors (MSU volleyball team please reference the first paragraph of this post). Feeling kind of guilty I had to ask someone and they told me it was indeed the Bobcat / Griz game that was being played tonight.

Montana sports on the internet

mslacatlogoI hope to post more of these “Montana sports the internet”. The last time I did one of these posts I entitled it “Montana Coaches on the Internet”, but I want to include more than just coaches, I want to include individual college sports pages such as twitter, myspace, etc.. I also want to include links to other blogs /pages that deal with Montana high school or college sports.

I am also going to put a link section on the right to all of these sites. Any blogs I can also put in my blog list.

Try as I might to find other college sites right now the list is very Montana State centric, I will be happy to feature and include any sites from or about any Montana source.

Post of the week

Good Day for the ‘Cats

It was a pretty good day to be a Bobcat Saturday. First the Bobcat men’s basketball team won a very hard fought game against the Grizzlies in an opening round Big Sky game 56-54, in Missoula. At the same time the Bobcat’s women’s team beat Eastern Washington 85-67 in Bozeman, and locked up the third seed in the women’s tourney that starts next week, in Missoula. The Bobcat men, who had been swept badly by the Griz in the regular season, followed a pattern they have exhibited all season by staying close to the favored Grizzlies and then using a late push to pull out a very narrow victory, in this nail biter. The win moves the Bobcats on to the second round game in Ogden Utah, the site of the semifinals and championship games. As an unabashed Bobcat fan I have to admit as happy as I was to see them get the win in my home town I was more happy for the Coaches and players to finally see them get a monkey off their back. I hope they can use this win to give them some confidence, and let them travel to Ogden and Have some fun. Going into the tourney the Bobcats are the only team in the conference that has wins over the tourney top three seeds. They could do some damage. Binford’s team seems to be playing their best game right in March. They are going to be a team nobody is going to want to play in the first round.

In additional good news for the Bobcat family, Binford 2009 Montana recruits are 2 for 2 so far in state championship games. Rachel Semansky’s Highwood team defeated Belt 53-49in the Class C championship and Chelsea Banis’s Fairfield team defeated Malta 56-47. I am still awaiting the results of the Class A championship which features future Bobcat Ashley Albert’s Hamilton team against Anaconda,

The Grizzly’s women’s team also continued their dominance of the Big Sky Conference with a 70-60 win over Portland State, in a game that determined the site of the conference tournament. Montana finished the conference 15-1 and will enter the tourney this Thursday as the #1 seed and favorite to get the automatic bid to the NCAA tourney.
