Griz recruit: Stuart Wesonga

I have heard that Wayne Tinkle and his Grizzly basketball coaching staff are recruiting Stuart Wesonga of San Marin High School in San Marin, California. Wesonga is a power forward, and is the only big man prospect that I have heard solid information on that the Grizzly were recruiting. The source who tipped me to Wesonga told me he was in the 2012 recruiting class (junior to be) but in doing my research most sources identify him as a member of the 2011 (senior to be) class.

Wesonga compiled some pretty impressive stats last year averaging 23 points, 7 blocks, and 15 rebounds while shooting 60 % from the field and 61% free throw line as a senior and 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 blocks. He was named First team all North Bay conference both his sophomore and junior years.

I have heard that some scouts/coaches questioned his stats and wondered how he would do against better competition. He answered a lot of critics this July playing with a number of AAU teams he had a number of great games including a 30 point effort, playing along side Kentucky commit Kyle Wiltjer.

The person who gave me the tip, compared him to former Bobcat Divaldo Mbunga, a better athlete but, a little shorter (but still growing). He is also considered to rather raw as a player, but with his outstanding athleticism he has a huge upside.
