Odds and Ends 10-12-10

More miscellaneous odds and end pieces of information that I have collected over the past week

  • The Montana State women have put together a pretty good promotional film for the upcoming season. You should check it out.

Sugar and Spice!?

I have updated all four of the Montana State and Montana recruiting lists. That includes updating some commits and offers. Below are some of the football players out of the lists. It really looks like the Bobcats are looking to sign a couple high quality running backs and the Griz are really looking at an amazing number of high quality quarterback.

Where are they now: The Missing Freshman

This year both the Bobcat and Grizzly men’s’ programs lost a freshman recruit just before the season started. The Griz lost 6-5 Thurman Woods, a combo forward from Compton California. For the Bobcats they lost 6-5 Frenchman Marco Bourgault, a sharp shooting wing player. In both cases the recruits were on campus, signed up for classes, and uniform assigned, before they found out that they had problems with the NCAA clearing house. I thought I would update you on what these players have been up to since leaving their respective program.

Thurman Woods

Woods left the Griz programs just before classes started when the NCAA still had not cleared him for to play D-1 ball. I am told the Griz coaches were pretty confident that Woods would eventually be cleared this year, but he did not want to take the chance, and be forced to sit out this season.

Bobcat BB: Marc-Antoine Bourgault update

BourgaultWith my Odds and Ends post of earlier today, I started to think about Montana State freshman recruit Marc-Antoine Bourgault (also refer to as Marco Bourgault). In May when his signing was announced, I could not dig up lot of information and practically no stat information on him. I decided today to give it another shot and see if the Google search engines were stirred up enough to provide some more information. Here is what I have found.

Last year Bourgault played for the Cholet basketball U-21 club, his first year playing for the U-21 team. U-21 stands for twenty one years old and under. For a 30 game season he averaged 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and two steals a game while shooting 54% from the field, 40% from beyond the three point line and 76% from the free throw line. As I understand it the French club teams used a three point line that was approximately the same distance as the current NCAA line and a foot and half beyond what US high school the currently use. Bourgault started 28 of the 30 game as a small forward but put in significant time at all three back court positions. The U-21 season ended in late April of 2009 so these stats are as current as any thing.

The previous year Bourgault played for the U-18 team and averaged, 20 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. His shooting percentages were a little below what they were this year.

Odds and Ends 8-24-09

mslacatlogoAs I indicated earlier aside from some assorted basketball commitments there is not a lot of news to report. Both programs at both schools are trying to make arrangements to have prospects visit campus this September and everyone is getting all worked up over the start of the football season. This Odds and ends post will be shorter than normal and is mostly an update.

  • As an update on my Lady Griz basketball 2009-10 Roster article keep an eye on true freshman guard / forward Kenzie De Boer she is really impressing. I think she will make the starting line up very early in her career and once she gets it she is not going to give it up.
  • In my Bobcat Women’s basketball 2009-10 Roster post, I plugged JC transfer Beata Bak into the starting spot at center. It appears that 6-3 senior center Jamie Thornton is having a very nice summer and may be the center to beat for that starting spot. In any case competition is good and both will play significant minutes this winter. Ashley Albert also continues to impress.
  • A correction to Bobcat men’s basketball 2009-10 Roster, I stated that all of the Bobcat men were on campus this past July-August for second section of the summer semester. In fact I am told that true freshman guard / forward Marc Bourgault was not able to make it Bozeman this summer but had other commitments in France. He will be arriving at the start of the fall semester.

Huse Wraps it up ……

huse.jpg….. I think

Part 1

Yesterday May 20th marked the end of the spring signing period, so I thought I might wrap up Montana State recruiting as it now stands. I will post a wrap up on the Montana State women’s program earlier and I will do something on the Lady Griz shortly. I am going to wait on the Griz men’s program a little bit.

Brad Huse signed 3 players in total this year and has invited 3 more have been offered preferred walk-on spots on the roster. All of these player, whether they are JC or high school players will have at least three years in the program so impact should be viewed in the long term and short term. None of these players are guaranteed impact player, given the Cats return 9 of their top 10 players, but a few of them will need to contribute. I also think everyone of them has a chance to contribute next year, but not all will. Redshirting decisions will be very interesting for the coaches next year.

Bobcat Recruit Update: Marc-Antoine Bourgault

BourgaultThe Bobcats announced the signing of two players to letter of intents and two players who have chosen to walk-on. Three of the players were pretty much know quantities, but one was completely off the radar.

The Bobcats announced the signing of Frenchman Marco Bourgault today (5-07-09). Marco is more commonly known as on the net as Marc-Antoine or Marc. If you want to Google him I would highly recommend you do not forget the “r” in his last name. Some of the news reports with of the announcements (including mine) have omitted this, and it will make it difficult to find him. Anyone care to guess how I know this!?

I believe the Bobcat coaches first noticed Marc last summer when a he participated in a series of basketball tournaments in California for a special All-Star European AAU team put together by the 1 Dream Basketball Academy. The 1 Dream team spent 3-4 weeks in the United States last June and July playing in numerous AAU tourneys. Bourgault started at the off guard spot but also played a lot of time at point guard He averaged 13 points, 4 assist and 6 rebounds a game for the All Star team. For his French team –The Cholet Basketball Club- he averaged 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists this past winter. Bourgault has also played on numerous European and French teams over the past few years, but since I do not read French I can not really comment much on his play for those teams.
