Signing day Odds and ends

mslacatlogoI really have not done an odds and ends post in quite some time, mainly because I have not been coming across enough little pieces of info that would warrant a whole column, but here is one.

  • I forgot to mention that a few other Montana high school athletes should be signing letter of intents with Division teams today, Namely Josh Huestis with the Stanford men’s program and Jordan Phau with Weber State women’s program. If I have missed someone please let me know.
  • To my surprise Libby’s 6-1 forward Jackie Mee will not sign with a d-1 team this fall. In my humble (and sometime wrong) opinion she is at least as talented as some of the Montana women who will be signing today. Before I get hate mail this is not a knock on any one, but an acknowledgment that Mee is a very good player.casey-trujeque
  • There was a nice article on Bobcat recruit /Signee Casey Trujeque and two other of his Price high school teammates were featured in a LA Times article yesterday. The main thrust of the article was about how tiny Price high school will have three players signing letters of intent today with Division 1 schools. One thing to remember though, while Price has a student population of about 100, for some odd reason a lot of the better high school students in the area seem to find themselves at Price high school. Imagine that!

For the record: Price’s, Richard Solomon and Allen Crabbe will sign with California and Casey Trujeque will sign with Montana State.

Odds and Ends – 6/29/09

mslacat1It is looking like most of my “Odds and Ends”, are becoming a Monday ritual for me. I don’t know if this is completely on purpose, but Monday’s always seem to be good for them. Seven days to collect them and then the first day after the week-end to regurgitate them. For some reason though they seem to be fan favorites and the most viewed on any given week, so Mondays they are. I do though reserve the right to post at any time I feel like it.

Bobcats still have a chance with Solomon?

solomom…. Well I would not hold you breath.

In a recent interview 6-9 power forward / center Richard Solomon recently the schools that recruiting him and that have offered. The list of schools that have offered Solomon included Arizona State, Boston College, Fresno State, Montana State and Oregon State, while Michigan, UCLA, Washington, Arizona, Stanford, USC, Minnesota and Texas are currently active in his recruitment. Anyone find a name that normally is not associated with the other schools?

Richard Solomon is a 6-9 forward / center who hails from California. He played last year for Bishop Montgomery in Torrance California, but has recently transferred to Frederick K C Price high school and will play with Bobcat commit Casey Trujeque there. About 12-14 months ago Solomon was an undersized 6-5 big man who was not getting a lot of recruiting attention. Montana State offered him then, but a lot has changed. After growing 3-4 inches and working on his game, he is ranked by Rivals as the # 100 player in the country and # 23rd power forward. has him rated as the #11th power forward in the country and a four star athlete.

Bobcat Recruit Solomon

Richard Solomon a 6-8 center a junior at Torrance Calif. Bishop Montgomery is being recruited by Montana State. MSU has been recruiting Solomon since last spring and offered him earlier this year. His only other right now is from San Jose State, but that could change. Over the fall and winter Solomon has sprouted 3 inches and has seen his recruitment take off, with UCLA, Oregon State, Michigan, Boston College and Minnesota showing interest in the last few months. Whether Solomon recruitment has blown by the Cats is yet to be determined, but I am sure the Cats will hang in there as long as they think they have a chance.
