A couple Bobcat FB recruits

I have run across a couple high school football players that Rob Ash and his staff may be looking at, but I can not find a heck of a lot of information on either so I have decided to combine them into one post.

The first prospect is Dominique MCallister, a 5-9, 170 pound running back from David Douglas high school in Portland, Oregon. MCallister is also getting some attention as a corner back prospect. David Douglas was also one of the better high school programs last year in Oregon. As of right now Montana State is the only D-1 program that I know is showing interest in him at this time, but I do not believe he has been offered by MSU.

Bobcat and Griz recruit: Brandon Cataldo

I have heard that both Montana and Montana State’s coaching staffs are looking at Brandon Cataldo of Rainier high school in Oregon. Rainier high school is in the 3A classification in Oregon and is Cataldo is considered to be small school kid prospect in name only.

I have seen Cataldo, who is a true center prospect, listed any where from 6-9 to 6-11 in height and 240 to 280 in weight. For the purposes of this post I am going to call him 6-10. His weight though has been an issue for him, but one that has been working in his favor. As a sophomore he was upwards around the 280 pounds mark, but he has been working off the weight and I believe he is now closer to 240 pounds, and he has really become fixture in the weight room. From the sounds of it his weight loss, and muscle gain has had a very positive impact on his recruiting stock this summer and it appears that he is definitely a rising star right now.

Bobcat FB recruit: Nathan Jeffery

JEFFERY is reporting that Bobcat head football coach Rob Ash is recruiting Nathan Jeffery of Caddo Mills high school in Texas. Caddo Mills plays at the 2A level in Texas, and is considered to be a “small school”, but is most likely somewhere around the size of a Montana class A school.

Jeffery is listed as an athlete, but I believe the Montana State coaching staff is recruiting him primarily as a running back but he is also getting a lot of attention as a safety. Jeffery has been a major contributor for Caddo Mills since his freshman year. He currently is 5-11 and weighs 185 pounds and runs a 4.5 forty

Odds and Ends – 7/28/09

troy huff

I have some miscellaneous pieces of info that I thought I would share again. Before I begin though I need to point out something that I do not think is clear as I thought it was, I tend to try to link these “Odds and ends” post to either the source material when I can or to previous posts in my Blogs. The links are not that obvious I guess but look for the underlined words. The neither font nor color is all that different from non linked text. I hope that helps.

  • Troy Huff of Brookfield Academy in Wisconsin, who was offered by the Griz coaching staff when he attended the Griz basketball camp in early July, has received his second and third scholarship offers from North Dakota and North Dakota State the past week. Huff is a 6-4 combo guard who has been having a great July playing for the Playground Elite AAU team.

The Thirds Rule

I’m a basketball coach. That’s what I do. I want people around me that have the same passion for the game. I don’t feel that I’m overly demanding, but one thing I absolutely demand is sacrifice. I ask my players to sacrifice themselves for the benefit of the entire team. I tell them that they need to give up the desire for personal accolades and focus on team goals and team rewards.

Griz recruit: Steve McClellan

Another Bay Area Hoosiers prospect the Griz basketball staff is looking at is 6-7 230 pound Steve McClellan from Edison high school in Fresno California. McClellan is primarily a power forward, although he has some interest in playing the small forward.

McClellan is a big physical player who is a beast inside a very good rebounder. I can not his exact stats but I believe he averaged around 16 points and 10 rebounds a game for Edison high school. He is a 2 year starter for Edison and played his freshman year with his brother Darshawn who now plays for Vanderbilt.

Last season McClellan was an all conference player for Edison and is also listed as on for the top 15 Power forwards on the west coast by ESPN ranks him as the #132 power forwards in the country and gives him a 79 rating.

Griz recruit: Will Davis

davisAs I have mentioned before the Griz coaches are looking hard at quite a few prospects from Bay Area Hoosiers, one of those players 6-8 forward Will Davis from Sacramento high school in Sacramento California. Sacramento high school’s 08-09 team featured somewhere around 6 to 7 players who will eventually play D-1 ball including Bay Area Hoosiers team mate and Bobcat recruit Travon Abraham.

Davis is a 6-8 200 pound combo forward who averaged 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks a game off the bench for Sacramento high school. Those surprised me as being quite low for a D-1 prospect, but they seem to be correct. Davis primarily plays the power forward spot but does swing to the small forward position. He is a pretty athletic player who has that new catch word among coaches length, which allows him to be a very good defender.

Bobcats recruit: Tre Johnson

tre johnson2

Two sport athlete Tre Johnson is receiving a lot of recruiting interest from a lot of different schools including Montana State. Johnson is a 6-7 200 pound major athlete who is receiving interest in Basketball as a power forward and football as a wide receiver. He plays for Hug high school in Reno Nevada, currently this week end was competing for the Las Vegas Prospect AAU team in the large Vegas tourneys.

In Basketball

Johnson averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks a game as a sophomore, and 15 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks this past year. He was named first-team All-North by the Reno Gazette Journal as a junior. He is known as a high energy, extremely athletic player who is just now starting to come into his own as a basketball. The term big upside keeps being mentioned.

In Football

Odds and Ends – 7/25/09

I could not wait until Monday, this was getting too long.

  • This week end there is a huge basketball AAU tournament in Las Vegas. Actually it is not a single tourney but a group at least three (each sponsored by a shoe company) all scheduled for the same days to Give coaches the Max bang for their travel buck. Additionally there are at least 3 different age groups and they cover both boy’s and girls. Just about every Gym in Las Vegas is being used this week end and there are thousands of basketball players in Vegas. From what I have heard, both MSU and UM have two coaches in Las Vegas, and I believe Binford’s Staff had at least one coach also in Vegas. I have to imagine Selvig had someone down there but I can not confirm.

Bobcat FB recruit: Josiah Flack

flack is reporting that the Bobcat football staff is recruiting linebacker Josiah Flack from D’Evelyn high school in Denver Colorado Flack is a 6-0 215 pound prospect who also has also could get some looks at safety. He compiled 155 tackles, 10 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries last year. He was named the 3A Defensive Player of the Year and one of just four juniors named All-Colorado by the Rocky Mountain News.

Flack is known as a very aggressive player, who plays much bigger than his size. He runs a 4.6 forty time and a 315 pound max. bench press. To top it off he is a 3.6 GPA just for a little extra.
