July Evaluation Period: Bobcat Women

This is the third in a series of four posts, looking at what positions the Montana State men’s, Montana State women’s, the Montana men’s as well as the Lady Griz basketball programs may be looking to evaluate and ultimately fill roster spots next year. This post will cover the Montana State women’s program.

The Bobcat Women’s program will graduate all conference candidate point guard Erica Perry, and potential starter at center Jamie Thornton. Additionally they will have two more open scholarships to given them a total of four to play with. MSU head Coach Tricia Binford prefers to recruit freshman classes but may drop into the JC ranks if needed. While info on women’s recruiting is extremely hard to come by I believe the MSU coaches are mainly looking at high school kids currently. If they were to sign a JC they more typically sign them in the spring.

Bobcat Women Recruit: Danielle Love

Hold your hats folks I am going to have three women’s basketball scoops in three days! Well actually I do not know if this is so much a scoop as much as it is a story.

There is an article today on the Herald.net that has also been picked up by USAToday, about Binford recruit Danielle Love of Cascade high school in Everett Washington. While the 6-2 Love primarily a center in high school she was listed as a guard / forward / center by her coach. Love can score from the perimeter and is a very good post up player. She brings the ball up court under pressure, and is a very strong rebounder having pulled down 25 rebounds in a game last year.

While she played center in high school, she plays power forward for her AAU ball club, and hopes to play small forward in college.
