Bobcat 2011 recruit Jehvon Clarke

CLARKeI have heard that brad Huse and his Bobcat basketball staff are recruiting 2011 prospect Jehvon Clarke of Timken high school in Canton Ohio. Clarke is a 6-2 combo guard who can score the ball in a variety of way. He really improved his stock this summer and is receiving a lot of attention right now.

He was named to the Honorable Mention 2008-09 Associated Press NE Inland All-District basketball team.

Here is ESPN eval. from last year

June, 2008: Clarke is a talented young player who must learn to make the most out of his abilities. He can score in a variety of ways as he gets to the rim, is a consistent shooter off the dribble in the mid-range area, and can make shots from behind the three-point line. His struggles are due to the fact that he settles for bad shots instead of using his versatility to take what the defense gives him. This is most apparent in the mid-range area where he will often take off-balance pull-ups or fade-aways, instead of playing off of two feet where he is very aggressive. He has a pretty filled out physique that indicates he may be done growing. If this is the case he will need to improve his decision making and ability to run the team so he can play the point guard position consistently.

Griz 2011 recruit: Jonah Travis

I have heard that the grizzly basketball staff is recruiting current junior Jonah Travis from De La Salle high school in Minneapolis Minnesota. Travis is a 6-6 combo forward, but is more of power forward who can swing to the wing.

Last year he averaged about 10 points a game for De La Salle, while playing behind some talented players. He is known as a rugged player around the basket but is looking to take his game to the outside.

Here is what his AAU coach had to say about Travis:

Odds and Ends: 9-29-09

It has been a rather busy September for me so sorry for lack of attention on my blog but it is likely to come in spurts for the next month or so. It has also been kind of slow also. Anyway let’s go into Odds and Ends.

  • Grizzly basketball recruit Thomas Frye has named his favorite as Texas Christian University, but I do not believe TCU has offered him yet. His next four are UC Riverside, Eastern Washington, Montana, and Portland State. I am not sure exactly sure what the order of these next four are but I hear Montana is at or near the top of these four. I believe Tinkle has offered Frye.
  • The Bobcat football team are apparently still recruiting K.J. Cusack a 5-9 wide receiver/ / running back / defensive back / athlete from Santa Maria California. He recently reported at that he holds offers from UC Davis, Portland State and Air Force, but Fresno State, San Jose State, Montana State, and Sacramento State are very involved and are expected to offer soon. He is also starting to get interest from Miami of Ohio, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State and Cincinnati

Griz 2011 recruit Ben Stelzer

I have heard that Wayne Tinkle and the Grizzly basketball coaches are recruiting Ben Stelzer of Manitowoc Roncalli high school in Wisconsin. Stetzer is a 6-0 combo guard who is currently entering his junior year at Manitowoc Roncalli.

Stelzer is a multi-sport athlete who excels in football and basketball. As a sophomore he had over 1000 yards passing and currently this year is on track exceed those numbers. On the basketball court, last year he was the only sophomore named to Division 3 WBCA All-State Team and averaged, 20 points, and 4 rebounds, while shooting 44% from the field, 42% from beyond the three point arc, and 94% from the free throw line. As a freshman he averaged 12 points a game.

As you might guess from his shooting percentage Stelzer has an outstanding reputation as perimeter marksman. In one game last year he hit 10 shots from beyond the three point line. Stelzer plays the point guard spot in high school but he may need to improve his ball skills to play that spot in college, but he is still very young.

Update on Binford’s Aussie recruits

kate emily2

I have been talking with some folks to get more information on the two basketball recruits that Montana State’s Tricia Binford has received commits from. In the picture to the left Emily Allen is in the front row center (#8). Kate Webb is just behind her over Emily’s right shoulder (your left). The picture I believe was taken 12-18 months ago when they both played for the Seahawk basketball team/club.

One of my sources for information was TW at Showtime basketball. Showtime, as I understand it, is an organization that facilitates basketball tours for Australian teams in the US and US teams in the Australia, They are also very involved with Australian basketball scene. My other source is a guy who goes by Ben (I am just going to assume this is a guy) kind of like me, who follows Australian club basketball.

Emily Allen

TW from Showtime had the following evaluation:

Emily is 6′ wing player. She has great speed and ball handling skills and finishes well at the basket. Her shot does need to develop a little, but she should be an immediate impact player for the Bobcats.

To this Ben added that while he agrees with most of what that he feels Emily may need to add a little muscle on her frame. Once she does that and develops her shot she has a huge potential.

Coaches on the net

Well since I last did a coaches on the internet piece it was almost all of the web activity has been centered on MSU sports and almost exclusively Tricia Binford’s Montana State Women’s Basketball team.

You know Montana assistant coach Trish Duce is a computer wiz (not to mention major), I do not under stand why the lady Griz do not have any presence on the web. I know Trish is a very busy person, I would think that she would want to push for some type of presence.Binford08MUGSAW

Anyway, the MSU volleyball team has been updating their progress so far this season so if volleyball is your bag check out their Blog before and after each game.

Coach Binford has been a blogging fool she has had the following topics on her Blog since the last time I posted. All of them are worthy of a read.

Griz FB recruit: Cody Fajardo

FAJARDO2 is reporting that Bobby Haucks Grizzlies are recruiting Cody Fajardo of Servite high school in Anaheim, California. Fajardo is 6-1 200 pound quarter back who has put up some pretty impressive numbers, both passing and running.

As a junior he had a 65% completion rating (136 completions on 209 attempts) for a total 1,588 passing yards and 15 passing TD’s. He also had a total of 575 yards passing with 9 rushing touch downs. This year Servite is off to a 3-0 start, and he continues to put up big numbers.

ESPN gave him a 67 rating and ranked him as the # 151 quarterback in the country. Here is their evaluation.
