Bobcat recruit: Doug MeDermott

mcdermott1It is that time of year when High school athletes are hitting the spring circuit getting seen by college coaches and college coaches are zeroing in on targets for next years recruiting classes. In basketball that means the AAU circuit.

The latest news is being reported by that Doug McDermott, son of Iowa State head coach Greg McDermott is seriously looking at Montana. Doug is quoted.

Bobcat recruit: Ryan Duxbury

ryan-duxberry-I have heard that Montana State is recruiting 6-8 240 lb power forward / Center Ryan Duxbury from Stillwater Minnesota. Duxbury is a rugged big man who has really started to come into his own as a big man this past year. He averaged for Stillwater 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks a game as a junior, for a very young team. Next year Still water should be one of the better teams in the state with 6 of their top players back next season including Duxbury and their leading scorer. Duxbury was named honorable all-state this past year and is ranked as the #20 D-1 prospect in the 2010 class by Minnesota Preps.

Here are some comments from Ryan James of

What is up with the Griz

w tinkle

A complete lock down on information is in effect that Bill Belichick would be proud of. I will be honest most of my sources with the Griz basketball coming and goings either know close to nothing or have been sworn to secrecy on the threat of losing their first born. Even on the internet, and sources outside of Montana have been deathly silent on Griz recruiting news, either this year or just in general. I have been averaging two Bobcat recruiting tidbits a day for about a week now, and I am feeling rather guilt that I can not come up with hardly anything Griz related. I have one more Bobcat recruiting tidbit written and almost in the can, that I felt too guilty about posting with out some Griz news. So here are some small morsels of rumor I am hearing.

Big Sky coaches not happy with New Schedule

Here is an article that appeared today on Rivals.BigSkyConference_100

I have posted a portion of it below, but you should check out the entire article.  Like I said before this Friday and Saturday schedule has been tried off and on countless of times over the past 30 years but usually does not last for more than a year or two, before it always reverts back to the Thursday /Saturday format.   In the past coaches have always complained  that this schedule gives the Montana team a big advantage due the long and sometime arduous trip between the schools in the summer times, but to be honest I think the  Portland State / Eastern Washington trip will be just as tough.

Bobcat recruit: TrayVonn Wright

It is reported that Bobcat Brad Huse’s coaching staff has offered TrayVonn Wright a 6-8 forward from Waterloo West high school in Waterloo Iowa. Wright averaged around 10 points, 10 rebounds a game 5 blocks a game.

He has started for Waterloo since his freshman season and has been named second team all conference the past two season. He is considered to be sleeper in Iowa right now but is making some waves in AAU ball this spring. had the following to day about Wright a few weeks ago.

Robin Selvig stands Pat

robin selvig
I have been scratching my hear the past week or so trying to figure out how to wrap up the Lady Griz year end recruiting, when they have decided to stand pat with the athletes they signed this fall. Basically no one wants to sound like a broken record, but I will try to add a little freshness to things I may have already said.

I am told that Selvig and his staff looked at the athletes they had on their radar this spring and those coming up next fall and decided they like next years class potential a whole lot better.

While this year’s class is small, it is very talented. I have talked to a small handful of folks who know a lot more about women’s basketball than I and there is no consensus as to who is the best get of the class. I have heard three separate arguments for who will be the better Lady Griz player. The area that all agree is this class is very good and will push returnees for playing time. Here are the arguments I have heard for each player.

Video: CMR’s Josh Huestis

josh head

Last week I wanted to post this with the little blurb I did on Great Falls CM Russell’s Josh Huestis but due to some changes with the folks that host my blog I could not get it to work, but I got it fixed now…. hopefully.

I hope to post other video on state of Montana players as well as MSU and UM commits /signees for next year, but I have been not having the best of luck finding video. If anyone knows of video (youtube or otherwise) on the following players please let me know.
