Bobcats recruit: Tre Johnson

tre johnson2

Two sport athlete Tre Johnson is receiving a lot of recruiting interest from a lot of different schools including Montana State. Johnson is a 6-7 200 pound major athlete who is receiving interest in Basketball as a power forward and football as a wide receiver. He plays for Hug high school in Reno Nevada, currently this week end was competing for the Las Vegas Prospect AAU team in the large Vegas tourneys.

In Basketball

Johnson averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks a game as a sophomore, and 15 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks this past year. He was named first-team All-North by the Reno Gazette Journal as a junior. He is known as a high energy, extremely athletic player who is just now starting to come into his own as a basketball. The term big upside keeps being mentioned.

In Football

Johnson compiled 14 receptions for 283 yards and a18.7 avg. while scoring 2 touch downs last season for Hug high school. Between his height athleticism and big time play ability he has generated a lot of interest from D-1A football programs. It appears that football is where he is generating the most attention from larger programs.

Instead of me telling you what I think of him I am just going to let some quotes do the talking.

First from the Reno Gazette Journal that appeared the other day, and my favorite quote.

Imagine the Energizer Bunny wearing a pair of adidas shoes. That’s Tre Johnson on the basketball court. The 6-foot-7, 198-pound forward is in constant motion. Grab a rebound. Block a shot. Fill the lane in transition. He keeps going and going….

From Scout.com earlier this summer.

Tre Johnson, 6-6 PF Reno (Nev.) Hug. A very active and athletic four man, Johnson was all over the court last night. Not real skilled yet, but makes plays as a defender and rebounder…
…..Good-looking four man with length and explosive athleticism. Plays with very good energy. Active rebounder and defender. Offensive skills need polishing, but he has some intriguing tools. Definitely worth a look at the mid major level.

From Rivals.com this past week end.

Indiana Elite Red could not contain Tre Johnson of the Las Vegas Prospects from doing what he wanted at the rim. Johnson was by far the most athletic frontcourt player on the floor and he bounced all over the glass for dunks, boards, and swats.

Finally from the Rivals.com football recruiting site.

Tre Johnson Hug 6’6 180
14 rec 283 yds 18.7 avg 2 tds
A unique prospect, Johnson is an athletic and tall receiver that is a very tough match up but also doubles as a strong prospect on the wing in basketball as well. He has the hands and physical ability to catch a few offers on the football field this off-season. He is still a bit raw and has a lot of room to develop physically but upside could keep him on the gridiron.

I have heard that Brad Huse and his coaches have been on Johnson pretty hard, stressing the academic side of things. Johnson is an excellent student and academics will a major factor if not the #1 factor in deciding which sport and which school he will attend next year. Engineering and Accounting are the two areas that he is looking to peruse in college. In football, Nevada, UNLV, Cal, Arizona, Arizona State, Penn State and Oregon State are showing a lot of interest right now, while in basketball Arizona, Arizona State, California, Oregon, UNLV, Detroit, Nevada, Santa Clara, Boise State, as well as Montana St. are recruiting him.
