With classes scheduled to start in about a month I thought I would look at the current state of the four D-1 programs rosters. I plan to list all four in the next two days.
This is not the official roster but it but I believe that if one was posted today this is how it would look. From what I have heard the entire team has been on campus taking second session summer classes and working out together. I do not believe the coaches expect any additions or defections before school starts. That said though thing happen especially with walk-ons so nothing is set in stone until they show up for fall classes.
Roster
Will Bynum 6-3 shooting guard senior
Cameron Henderson 6-6 power forward senior
Marquis Navarre 6-0 point guard senior
Brandon Johnson 6-8 p. forward / center senior
Bobby Howard 6-7 power forward junior
Danny Piepoli 6-6 guard forward junior
Erik Rush 6-5 guard forward junior
Larry Swann 6-1 guard junior
Michel Swita 6-11 center sophomore
Cody Anderson 6-10 center sophomore
Austin Brown 6-4 guard / forward sophomore
Bryan Louff 6-1 point guard sophomore
Jeff Budinich 6-10 power forward freshman
Marc Bourgault 6-5 guard / forward freshman
Colt Idol 6-3 shooting guard freshman
Steven Davis 6-7 power forward freshman
Here is my projected stating line-up (As always I reserve the right to change my mind after seeing them in practice)
Starting Five
Point Guard- Marquis Navarre (returning starter)
Shooting Guard- Will Bynum (returning starter)
Small Forward- Erik Rush (returning starter)
Power Forward- Bobby Howard (returning starter)
Center- Brandon Johnson (based on his play at the Big Sky tourney)
Back up
Point Guard- Bryan Louff / Eric Rush
Shooting Guard- Danny Piepoli (if healthy)
Small Forward- Austin Brown
Power Forward- Cameron Henderson (could be pushed by Budinich)
Center – Anderson/ Swita
Huse’s concerns (based on a May conversation)
The point guard spot and an injury to Marquis Navarre. Navarre is the only true point on the roster. Rush, Swan, and Bourgault can all play the point but they are not true points. With Louff agreeing to walk on hopefully he is feeling a little better.
Mslacat’s concern
I really hope Swita, Anderson, and Henderson can push Howard and Johnson for starting positions. I do not say this as a knock on either Howard or Johnson, but if MSU is gong to be successful we need Swita, Anderson and / or Henderson to be able to play at or close to the level Howard and Johnson.
Final Note: I have heard that 2008-09 walk-on Trevor Hopkins has transferred to a D-2 school in the Los Angelis area.- UC-Los Angeles I believe.
