Who are the top MT Prep football prospects…

… to be honest I don’t know. There does not seem to be a clear-cut #1 prospect like Montana had last year in Matt Miller from Helena Capital. I am just not knowledgeable enough to even assume that might be, so I decided to get on line and check out what Rivals, Scout and ESPN had to say about the issue.

Now before I begin let me point out how poor of a track record these sources have in rating Montana prospects. Sure they do get the Millers and Brock Oswielers right but they only get to rank athletes they have actually seen and they don’t get to see a lot of them. They have also been known to rank some Montana athletes as a high D-1 prospect, only to see them not even a D-1AA scholarship offer.

There is only one Montana athlete who is mentioned in all three databases and that is O-Lineman Connor Thomas from Kalispell who recently committed to Oregon State. Committing / signing with a Pac-10 school certainly might qualify on as the top recruit in the state the prospect who ESPN likes is kicker Trevor Bolton from Great Falls who they give a 70 rating and the 69th kicker in the country. By comparison they gave Thomas a 45 rating.

Here are the prospects mentioned by the three internet sites.

Trevor Bolton, 5-10, 175 – Great Falls (Kicker)
Rivals.com: No Mention
Scout.com: No Mention
ESPN: Rated him a 70 and the number 69th kicker in the country.
Comments
Trevor is a strong lefty kicker who showed college talent at a Kohl’s training camp. His kick offs and field goals should make him a very recruit able athlete. He has a strong leg that can easily handle 55 yard FG. His kick offs should almost all be into or out of the end zone during his senior season. Trevor also showed a lot of natural rhythm and consistency at camp. It is rare to have an athlete with a fast leg like Trevor’s who can be consistent on FG’s. he hits really well off of the ground and he creates a lot of pop through the ball.
