Bobcat Commit: Johannes Kriegereit

As I out lined in my Bobcats go international again to get  commits post, the Bobcat men’s basketball team has received a commit from Johannes (JoJo) Kriegereit from Bayern, Germany. Kriegereit is a 6-2 (although I have seem him listed at 6-3 also) point guard who played last year for the German club team MTSV Schwabing. He is about a year out of high school and 20 years old.

For MTSV Schwabing last year he played primarily the point guard spot but has the size and shooting ability to play the shooting guard spot also. He averaged over 19 points a game for MTSV and was the second leading scorer behind the Bobcat’s other German recruit Jermaine Julien Lippert. Also like Lippert he was recently named as one of the top 40 under 20 year old basketball players in Germany.

Lippert and Kriegereit are close friends and want to play college basketball together in the United State and that I believe was a selling point for the Montana State program, who offered both. I am not 100% sure about this but I believe Lippert and Kriegereit also played high school basketball together but I have not been able to confirm Kriegereit’s prep school.

Here is an evaluation from Sheridan JC coach Steve Smiley

“We’re really excited to get a player of Johannes’ ability. He’s a very talented player that is a traditional point guard, but can also play a shooting guard because of his size, athleticism, and ability to score. Johannes is also a very mature player and has a great feel for the game, so we’re thrilled that he’s going to be a General for the coming year! He should have an immediate impact on our program.

Kriegereit’s transcripts are currently being reviewed by the NCAA clearing house to determine if he will be a D-1 Qualifier. A determination is not expected until October. he and Lippert will be attending Sheridan Junior college in Wyoming for their coming freshman year while they are waiting on the clearing house determination. If one or both are determined to be Qualifiers they will join the Bobcat program for their sophomore year (2011-12). If one or both are determined to be Non-Qualifiers that they will need to spend two years at the JC level before joining the Bobcat program.

While nothing is guaranteed and their have been plenty of examples of players who have been placed at JC by schools only to have them sign elsewhere, I am told both Lippert and Kriegereit are solidly committed to Montana State. Still though a lot can happen in a year or two time, and it is my feeling the longer they are at Sheridan the more likely they will have other programs try to poach them.
