I have heard that Rob Ash and his Montana State football staff are recruiting Josh Atkinson from Diablo Valley junior college in Pleasant Hill California. Atkinson is a 6′-1″ 230 pound inside linebacker prospect who just finished his freshman year but could transfer to a D-1 school right away and play next year.
Atkinson is an interesting prospect because he is a full academic qualifier out of high school. Out of high school he enrolled at BYU as a simple student and did not play football. After that year he missed football and decided to enroll at Diablo Hill and played last year.
Last year for Diablo Hill he racked up 82 tackles, and 5 sacks for the 3-7 win loss record.
Atkinson ran track in high school and has decent speed with a 4.6 clocked time in the 40 yard dash.
I believe Atkinson is currently weighing his options as two whether to sign this summer or play for Diablo Hill next year in an attempt secure an offer from a larger school. He currently holds offers from Cal Poly, Idaho State, Montana State, Utah State, and UTEP. He would though like to get back to BYU with a scholarship (he holds a walk-on offer currently) where his brother also played football. The other two schools he would like to get an offer from are UTAH and California.
