Tilleman Sweepstakes 5-12-10 update

Since I originally did my Tilleman Sweepstakes blog a few weeks ago I have been hearing a lot contradictory statements/info concerning her recruitment.. Interest from Lady Griz and Bobcat Women basketball fans, seems to be very high, so I thought I would do an update on what I am hearing and what I believe is a little closer to the true story. I will say strait away, do not take this as a the gods honest truth but accumulation of all the rumors I have heard and my opinion as to what might be happening.

First for those how need to be told here is quick review. Tilleman is a 6-1 power forward who prepped at Bozeman high school and then went on to sign and play basketball for Oregon State university. She just finished her sophomore year at OSU and has played a significant role in the program since she arrived on campus. OSU is having a real problem retaining players. They have lost 6-7 underclassmen over the past 9 months.

It is my understanding that Tilleman took an official recruiting visit to both Montana and Montana State a week or so ago, and things went well. Rumors have been flying in Missoula and Egriz that Tilleman committed to play for the Lady Griz, but it is my understanding that this has not happened. She did commit to schedule an Official visit to Montana but that is as far as that has gone.

Tilleman is no hurry to make a choice for college as she is planning on attending Oregon State next year to finish up he forestry degree. While she is only in her second year at OSU, academically she is just finishing up her junior year. By sitting out her required transfer year at OSU as regular student she will be able to graduate at OSU with her degree at the end of 2011. She will then be looking at going to graduate program at the school she ends up at.

I was told that Tilleman planned to take all five official vests allowed by the NCAA before choosing, but I am now hearing that only three schools have or will be getting an official visit so far. I am not 100% sure who the third school is but I have some ideas. The lure of being able to play her last two seasons close enough to home that her family can see her play is a big factor. Again though she is taking her time and things could change.

Since Tilleman will be attending OSU next year, it will mean that she will be paying her own way, her transfer year and will not effect the scholarship count for any school for 2010-11. Tilleman will be considered part of the 2011 class for which ever school she choose. It will also allow her to delay her choice until possibly next spring if she so chose to. It would also allow her to even decide to rejoin the OSU basketball team if she decided.

One other thing to keep in mind is that according to quite a few articles I have read in recent days Oregon State women’s head coach LaVonda Wagner is under a lot of heat from fans and the administration, and it would not surprise me is she was let go. I have not heard any solid rumors on how this would effect Tilleman’s choice, but I think it could become a factor. If Wagner left would the interest to finish up her college degree at the school she started at be enticing or has that bridge already burnt.
