The Griz football coaching staff is recruiting Joe Farmer of Mount Si high school in North Bend, Washington. Farmer is a 6-5, 230 pound Tight End prospect , but also plays on the defensive line for Mount Si.
Farmer was named Second team all KingCo 3A/2A this past season and recently was named the Tight End MVP of the Rivals.com Ultimate 100 camp (which features athletes from most of the west coast states). I do not have his complete stats but I believe through his first 9 games of the season he had managed 170 yards on11 receptions and 4 touch downs.
Farmer is a multi-sport athlete for Mount Si having played on the varsity basketball team as well as being Mount Si top javelin , long jump and triple jump player on the track team.
Scott Eklund of Dawgman.com had the following evaluation of Farmer at the end of this past season.
Mount Si TE/DE Joe Farmer (2011) – Loved the look of this kid. Mount Si didn’t do much offensively, so he never had the ball thrown his way from what I was able to see, but on defense he was tough causing a fumble that eventually led to the Wildcats’ only score. On the play, Farmer burst through the line at his left defensive end position and chased down Eastlake QB Kelby McCorkle on a boot leg. He stripped the ball and it was recovered by one of his teammates. He’s got good size (6-5, 225) and decent speed. It was hard to tell how good his hands were because he didn’t get the ball thrown his way, but he definitely looks the part. He’s one to keep an eye on over the next year.
I understand Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Northwestern, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Washington and Washington State are the schools that are showing the most interest currently but this could change.
