Bobcat FB recruit: Levern Jacobs

It appears when Montana State hired new running backs coach Milo Austin he also brought with him a handful of east coast recruiting prospect names with him to Montana State. One of the prospects that Austin has brought to the attention to the Montana State coaching staff is Levern Jacobs from Suitland high school in District Heights Maryland. Jocabs is a 6-0 170 pound wide receiver / corner back prospect speedster. I believe most of the larger schools on his list are looking at him as a defensive back while the smaller schools like him as a wide receiver.

Last year or Suitland, Jacobs had 37 catches for 702 total yards and 12 touch downs. Jacobs also competes in track and as a sophomore he placed second team all-county for the long jump and 100 meter. he is looking to improve on those places this year.

He runs the 40 yard dash in 4.43 seconds, the 20 yard shuttle in 4.5 and has a 32 ” vertical jump.

Wayne Yarborough of MDhigh.com (part of the rivals.com network) had the following evaluation of Jacobs as a corner back prospect.

Jacobs was one of the top defensive back prospects at the Elite Showcase. On the field he’s a ball hawk; he is a tremendous athlete who has great speed and fluid hips and the ability to close quickly on receivers. Jacobs also put up so of the best numbers during the combine portion of the event, running a 4.51 40, a 4.21 shuttle and an astounding 37.4-inch vertical (second best at the event) and a 10-feet, 5-inch broad jump (best at the event). Jacobs is clearly one of the top prospects in the class of 2011 and a legitimate D-1 prospect.

New Mexico State was the first school to offer Jacobs but a few weeks back Montana State extended an offer to both him and his team mate ILB Antoine Young. Also showing an interest is Connecticut, Maryland, Montana State, New Mexico, Rutgers, Virginia, and West Virginia. he has taken quite a few unofficial visits to some of the schools in his area.
