Rivals.com is reporting that Rob Ash and the Montana State football coaching staff are recruiting Joseph (Joe) Nasser of Wylie high school in Abilene, Texas. Rivals is reporting that Nasser is a 5′-11″ 190 pound, running back prospect but it would not surprise me if he played on the defensive side of the ball in college.
Wylie finished 10-2 last year and ended their season losing in the Texas 2A championship game. For his efforts Nasser was named to the 3-2A first team as a full back and outside line backer, and first team Texas Division 2 All State as a Line backer.
Nasser’s offensive stats were not all that impressive but he did play behind a couple very good senior running back. Nasser averaged 13.5 yards per rush and scored 2 touch downs but he did this on only 36 attempts. As a receiver he had 11 reception for 113 yards (10.3 average for those who don’t want to do the math) and 4 touch downs. Nasser has a nice combination of speed and strength, and can break the first tackle and then let his speed take over.
Nasser is also a an accomplished track athlete and is getting some attention as a sprinter and distance jumper.
Nasser has a maximum 315 bench press and a 30 inch vertical jump, to go with a 3.96 GPA and a SAT score of 1280.
Nasser is receiving recruiting interest from Baylor, Brown, Montana State, Navy, Southern Methodist, TCU, Texas A&M and Texas Tech
