Griz recruit: Eric Robertson

Rivals.com is reporting that Wayne Tinkle and his University of Montana basketball staff are recruiting Eric Robertson of Wayzata high school in Plymouth Minnesota. Robertson is a 6-7, 180 pound small forward, who is an extremely versatile play. In college he could end up playing some at the power forward and/or shooting guard spot depending on his development.

This past season he averaged about 20 points and 8 rebounds a game although these are not official stats, and established himself as one of the top prospects in the State of Minnesota for 2011. Robertson junior year was a far cry from his sophomore and freshman years when he struggled with injuries much of these season. He has played well enough that he has garnered interest from a wide variety of schools who will be watching him very closely this spring and summer.

ESPN gives Robertson an 84 ranking and has the following evaluation.

March, 2010: Robertson is an excellent athlete who has been hampered by injuries the past two seasons. He has a good shooting range and is aggressive taking the ball to the basket. Robertson has long arms and has the chance to be a solid defender. He needs to continue to add strength and improve his ball handling skills. Robertson has a big upside and is young for his class, so he has room for improvement.

Here are a couple comments from this spring from Ryan James of MinnesotaPreps.com.

Eric Robertson (Wayzata) and the Minnesota Pump N Run has had his stroke going. Hitting face-ups and pull-up jumpers Robertson has been a scoring weapon and when he gets more comfortable with that pull-up it will get quicker and more deadly.

Eric Robertson played with an intensity that coaches love from wings. Rebounding and position defense were areas where you could tell Robertson put a strong focus on performing well.

As I mentioned before Robertson has been rather injury prone the past few years and as such some schools are showing interest but have not yet , figured out where he fits in their plans. I understand that Army, Colorado State, Columbia, Iowa, North Dakota State, Pennsylvania, Santa Clara as well as Montana are showing the most interest but that list will evolve quite a bit over the summer.

Anything going on with the Griz BB recruiting during the soon to be over signing period? It sounded earlier like they were looking to fill one more slot.

I have heard that they are still looking for a point guard who can score, from the JC ranks. I have also heard though that they will only sign a player who they think can contribute next year and not just any player. If they can not find that player they may not sign anyone.
