Recruiting: Grizzly progress report

We are about 4 weeks into the late recruiting period with about 2 week remaining I thought I would do update where the four Montana based D-1 programs currently stand and what is left to finish out their recruiting. This is the second of two updates. The first covered the Montana State teams, this one will cover the Montana programs.

The Montana Grizzly Men

The Griz men signed two JC players so far this spring in Art Stewart from Casper JC in Wyoming and Jordan Wood of Snow JC in Utah as well as the high school commit Jamar Kareem from Westchester high school in California. They also lost Micheal Taylor who decided the transfer. When you add up the scholarships that leaves the Griz with six returning letter men, one redshirt freshman, four incoming freshman as well as two incoming junior college players. That gives them the 13 maximum scholarships allowed by the NCAA, so they are done right? It does not appear so.

I have been hearing from multiple sources that the Griz are still looking for a point guard in the JC ranks. The two players that are mentioned most often are Chris Kupets in Hill junior college and Chris McHenry of Garden City JC in Kansans but I understand they are involved with a few others. I believe McHenry might be a long shot. he was committed at one time to Montana but de-committed and I hear a little bad blood has developed. Kupets was committed to Boise State at one point but her de-committed when they changed the coaches. Kupets was said to be leaning towards Cal State Fullerton and Utah as of last week but last it appears Utah has signed another JC point guard yesterday.

If the Griz do sign another player, though, that means that one of the 6 returning will not be coming back. I have heard speculation on who that player might be but no actual solid info, so we will all just have to guess on that – but think perimeter player.

The Griz had a couple walk-ons who joined the team for a period of time last but I hear neither will be back, but the coaches are looking at some options, but it is not high on their priority right now.

Lady Griz

The Lady Griz filled all of their scholarship, five to be exact, last fall so they look to be full up right now. The Lady Griz have a couple players who suffered serious injuries last season that hope to come back next year, but regardless I am told the Lady Griz will honor their scholarships for next year regardless, so the lady Griz should be standing pat this spring

I have heard that redshirt walk-on Kelsey Hidal will not return to next years team.
