This Wednesday will be the start of the spring signing day which will go until mid May and I wanted to update on various rumors and as well as my opinion (guess) on what the four programs are doing and who they could sign during the late period.
The current trend that all four programs have been following the past 3-4 years is to primarily sign high school kids in the early period and JC transfers in the late period, and this year they look to no different.
Signed in the Fall:
Kareem Jamar 6-5 Guard/Forward – Los Angeles, CA
OK this is were as a Bobcat fan I might get into trouble with the GrizNation, but since January I have been hearing rumblings that Jamar commit to the Grizzly is more of a commit if he end ups “going that level” but he may reconsider if he gets a bigger offer. The problem, though, is that when ever I ask someone who the “other schools” might be I never get a firm answer. So is this really Jamar’s thinking or is this some “experts” opinion. Recently I had the following exchange with Greg Hicks of Scout.com
Montana signed 6-2 Vaughn Autry last fall and received a commit from Kareem Jamar last December. I have heard that Jamar’s stock has risen quite a bit since then but I believe he is still committed. Montana will need some help at the 2 and 3 (maybe point). Autry I hear is a combo guard but the knock is that he does not have a true position. Jamar is a 3 who the Griz hope can play the 2 also. The Griz are hoping they have another Will Cherry (who started quite a few games this season) in these two. Any thoughts?
I think Autry is more of a two than a one, but like him also. Good athlete, pretty good spot up shooter and should be a good defender. I’ve heard that Jamar may not end up at Montana and other schools are pushing hard for him. If he does play for Montana, he’s another guy that has a chance to be an impact player early in his career.
Do you know some of the schools who are making a play right now for Jamar
No, just heard from a coach at Final Four that his recruitment could open up.
Take this for what it is worth
The Griz should have one scholarship to offer IF all underclass men come back, all fall signees are eligible, and Jamar signs. That said I have heard from a couple sources that the Griz could be looking to sign two junior college transfers, this spring. There are three JC recruits that I have heard that the Griz have offered and were in for visits. They are 6-3 guard Jordan Wood of Snow College JC, 6-4 guard Art Steward of Casper JC and 5-11 Chris McHenry of Garden City JC.
Chris McHenry was actually committed to the Griz for about 36 hours before he told the Tinkle he wanted to take one more visit to CS Northridge. I have been told Tinkle was very pissed when he was told and they may have pulled his offer, but he is a good enough player he might still be in the running.
Recently Malachi Roberts a 6-5 high school recruit told Rivals.com that the Griz pulled their offer to him because “they were full right now and have sort of over committed” but “If someone fails to qualify then options would open up for me there.”
