Griz FB recruit: Dillon Romain

I have heard that the former football staff led by former coach Bobby Hauck was recruiting Dillon Romain from Blair Academy prep school in New Jersey. The 5-10 200 pound running back is one of the more interesting story in this football recruiting season. First of all when was the last time you have heard that the Grizzly football staff recruiting a player from New Jersey.

Romain is a 5th year senior who played his first four years at Don Bosco high school also located in New Jersey where he rushed for 1,436 yards and 26 touchdowns before being named Gatorade Player of the Year and Most Valuable player of the New Jersey vs. Northeast All-Star Classic. After his senior year he did not get any D-1 offers he liked so he enrolled this year at Blair Academy a prep school who typically is ranked among the nation’s best. This year at Blair Academy the running back finished the season with 1,104 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 181 carries, and was just as impressive defensively. Romain rotated between safety, cornerback and outside linebacker to collect 57 tackles, including eight for a loss, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. For his effort this year Blair was named the New Jersey Prep Player of the Year.

While Romain is primarily being recruited as a running back I have been told that he also has the talent to play safety at the next level. Additionally, Don Bosco during his senior year he was considered to be a good enough point guard in basketball that he could also play basketball at the college level.

His recruitment is equally interesting. Like I mentioned before he did receive some D-1 last year but was not interested in the schools that offered. Rutgers last year offered him a preferred walk-on spot last year and has offered him the same this year. If they were to offer him a full scholarship Romain might just jump on that.

I am told Romain contacted Montana interest in playing for them and that is what started their recruitment of him. I am also told that Romain has the Griz as at the top of his list while Bobby Hauck was the head coach, but the Griz were waiting for his official visit to offer him. When Hauck took the UNLV job it put Romain on hold. While all of my information is pre the hiring of Robin Pflugrad, but I would have to imagine that the new staff is very familiar with Romain.

Currently Romain hold offers from Albany, Missouri State, Monmouth, and Portland State as well as receiving interest from Rutgers, Tulane and Pittsburgh. I am told though by a source that there money, barring a late offer from Tulane, would be on him signing with Montana.
