Bobcat recruit: Ernest Watson

I have it from a couple sources that Brad Huse’s Montana State Bobcats are recruiting Ernest “Stretch” Watson from Trinity Valley junior College in Texas. There is actually a chance that the Grizzlies are also looking at Watson. The person who brought him to my attention specifically said that both Montana Schools were looking at Watson, but when I checked with another source who covers the Texas and Oklahoma JC he confirmed that Montana State was recruiting Watson but not Montana. My first source continues to insist that Montana State and Montana are recruiting Watson.

Ernest Watson is a 6-7 195 pound combo forward who originally hails from the Washington D.C. area. He is an extremely athletic, with long arms and what coaches like to say he has a very high basketball IQ. He tends to use his athleticism to out quick bigger power forwards and despite is slender frame can over power small forwards. He is one of those players who also have a knack for rebounding and getting. His shooting range extends out to three point arc.

Currently Watson is averaging. 12 points, 8 rebounds a game while shooting 60% from the field and 88% from the charity stripe. Juco Junction has him rated as the 131st junior college player in the country.

Trinity Valley JC, who is currently 12-1 on the season, has 3 players ranked on JucoJuntion’s top national 150 players. In addition to Watson, center Adrian Forbes is rated 10th, shooting guard Chris Blake is rated 18th and power forward Isaiah Rusher is rated 79th.

Here is an evaluation on Watson from his freshman year.

Ernest Watson 6’7”180 Frosh. Washington, D.C.
“Stretch” has the talent to hurt opposing defenses in many ways. He has a silky smooth release and good range on his jump shot. He also has very soft touch around the basket and can score in the post. He plays with great poise and does not force shots, instead allowing the game to come to him and scoring within the context of the offense. He is a quick leaper which makes him a very effective rebounder on both ends. He needs to continue to work in the weight room to add muscle to his frame.

I have heard that Montana State, Charlotte, Marist and possibly Montana are recruiting Watson pretty hard and it is believed that they have also offered him. Auburn, and Connecticut, though has also shown some interest.
