Bobcat FB recruit: John Goldwire

I have heard that the Montana State football staff has offered John Goldwire from Lakes high school in Lakewood, Washington. Goldwire is primarily being looked at by most colleges a outside linebacker, but is also getting some looks as a wide receiver or safety. Goldwire also plays some as a fullback at Lakes high school.

This past season he had 7 carries for 48 yards and 3 td, caught 6 passes for 54 yards and 2 TD’s. Defensively he had 12 tackles on season. It should be said I am not 100% sure these are complete season stats. He was named honorable mention All-SPSL 3A football team. This summer he was named Linebacker MVP’s of the Washington’s (University) Rising Stars Camp. Scout ranks him #157 outside linebacker in the country and a two star prospect while ESPN ranks him with a 73.

Scout’s Take: Goldwire was a player who benefited from the attention paid to Potoae, able to get into the backfield to pressure the quarterback and record a sack. He delivered two big hits, one on the sack, and seemed to look for contact any time he could. — Brandon Huffman.

I am told that while he is not a pure speedster but is very explosive athlete, and is being recruited as much on potential as what he has done in high school. Goldwire runs a 4.57 in the 40 with a 42 inch vertical and 375# bench press max..

Goldwire currently has offers from, Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Montana State and Portland State. Washington and Washington State are showing some interest, though.
