The Weeks Calendar: 12-14-09

Another light schedule this week, with only 5 total games on the schedule for the Montana programs. Finals week is upon the students at Montana State and I believe the coaches will not schedule any games while finals are going on, as a matter of fact I was under the impression that coaches were only allowed home games even the week end after the finals, but I believe that is no longer the case.

The other thing that is starting to happen, is that we are seeing “barometer games” where, we get to compare various Big Sky team’s performances against common opponents. Some times the comparisons are really not that accurate, but they are a lot of fun to speculate.

This Weeks Calendar

Wednesday – December 16th

Grizzly Men host Montana State – Northern
The Griz will play their final D-2/NAIA game of the season against one of the better Frontier Conference schools in MSU-N. If all goes to plan look for quite a few Grizzlies to get significant minutes.

Friday – December 18th

Bobcat men host UC Santa Barbara
A test game for the Bobcats. UCSB comes in with a 5-2 record, but it is currently on a two game loosing streak. The hold a nine point win at home over Weber State. This will be only their second road game of the season. A tough team for a Big Sky team, but winnable home game for a BSC contender. Are the Bobcats a Contender?

Saturday – December 19th

Bobcat Women at Denver
Denver is said to be a team still building after becoming a D-1 school only a few years ago, and yet they do have some nice wins and some nasty defeats. They have wins over Colorado State, Air Force, and Florida International, and big losses to Montana, UC Davis, and North Dakota State. They are a very hot and cold team which could be dangerous for the Bobcats. Keep an eye on Bobcat Katy Bussey who will be playing in front of friends and family.

Grizzly Men host UC Riverside
UCR currently has a 5-3 record and should own one more win by the time they get to Missoula after playing Berry College (yes that is an actual college). They own a 1 point win over Sacramento State and a 12 point loss to Northern Arizona both on the road. A good barometer game. Look out for their athleticism on the front line it could give the Griz some trouble.

Lady Griz at Portland
The Lady Griz will once again play a very good West Coast conference team on the road. Portland currently holds a 9-3 record with wins against Sacramento State and Portlandof their losses against Eastern Washington. Montana State will be visiting U of Portland 2 days after this game, so this will be one of the better barometer games to forecast the up coming Conference season. State and one
