Bobcats FB recruit: Tyrell Jenkins

Montana State BobcatsI have heard that Rob Ash and his Montana State football staff are recruiting Texas football players Tyrell Jenkins, of Henderson high school in east Texas. The 6-4 Jenkins is labeled a dual-threat quarterback by both Rivals and Scouts, but some of the larger schools recruiting him are also looking at him as an “athlete” prospect.

During the 2008-09 season Jenkins completed 137 of his 275 passes for 1736 yards and 12 td over 10 games. He also rushed 36 times for a total of 85yards and 2 touchdowns. Last season he also played some at free safety and defensive back on defense.

This year Jenkins seems to solely playing on offensive and so far has 87 completions on 159 pass attempts and a total of 1095 passing yards and 9 touch downs. He has also rushed 61 times for a total of 280 rushing yards and 6 touch downs. Just for good measure he has also caught 3 passes for a total of 64 receiving yards 2 touch downs. On the year that gives him 17 touch downs and 1439 all purpose yards through 6 games this season.
Jenkins is also a very promising prospect in baseball as a right handed pitcher, and may choose to go that route. I have seen him rated as one of the top 10 baseball prospects in Texas this year and in the top 150 nationally.

Portion of the Daily Sentinel’s preview of Henderson high school.

The Lions offense did not score a lot of points in 2008, although at times they did put their team in position to win just to have the defense let them down. With six starters back on the offensive side of the ball, they should improve, and you can expect the offense to go as well as the play of QB Tyrell Jenkins. Jenkins is one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in East Texas and has the capability of getting away from the defense on every play

Jenkins is receiving a wide variety of d-1 interest currently, from such schools as Baylor, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, LSU, Michigan, Missouri, Montana State, Northwestern State, Rice, TCU, and Texas. Despite this he only hold one offer and that is from Baylor who recently offered him.
