Odds and ends: Committment edition

McCall_4There are a few internet articles out today on some recent commitments to both Montana and Montana State that I thought I would update you on.

Kevin McCarthy of CaliforniaPreps.com and parsingthewac.blogspot.com had an article today about Autry’s commitment to Montana. The article mentions one of the determining factors in his decision was that he felt with the graduation of AJ Johnson and Ryan Staudacher, he would have the opportunity to contribute as a true freshman.

Kevin had the following quote from Aurty’s high school coach:

Here is Serra coach Dwan Hurt on his senior: “Vaughn led us in scoring last season and he plays both ends of the floor. I really enjoy watching him play. He’s also well-rounded with a grade point average in the 3.3/3.4 range. I’ve always said what you do in the classroom carries out on to the floor and Vaughn is an example of that.” Hurt is a Serra and a Gonzaga graduate who played alongside NBA Hall of Famer John Stockton.

Greg Hicks, Scout.com’s lead West Coast Recruiting Analyst had an article today confirming that Billy Reader had committed to the University of Montana Grizzlies. Another source I talked to yesterday ad follows Oregon Basketball rather closely, said Reader may be the steal out of the state of Oregon. He thinks Reader is the most improved player in the state over the past 6-9 months. He feels that Reader has a very big upside, and definitely has the athleticism and lateral movement to play the power forward spot in college.

Greg Hick also confirmed today in a short article that 6-3 Chris McCall of Cheyenne high school in Nevada has committed to the Montana State Bobcat program. Hick’s blurb on McCall was a little bit more informative than readers and he had the following comment.

McCall is a very good athlete with a chance to play either guard spot at the next leCole6vel

In my initial post about Ausha Cole’s commitment to Binford’s Bobcat squad, I mentioned that I did not know who else was recruiting her at the time. I am told that it her final two were Pepperdine and Montana State. I hear Kansas was showing a lot of interest but no offers before she committed. Cole felt more comfortable with the Bozeman campus.
