Bobcat’s get 4th Commit

I have heard that Brad Huse’s Montana State Bobcat’s have landed a commitment from an outstanding guard in the name of Chris McCall. McCall is 6-3, 180 pound, shooting guard from Cheyenne high school in North Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cheyenne high school finished last season with a 22-5 record last season. Two Seniors off that team signed with D-1 schools with top 100 prospect Elijah Johnson signing with Kansas and two star prospect Demetric Williams choosing Wichita State over Montana State. This year Cheyenne will have three seniors who will garner D-1 attention. Along with McCall, point guard J’Quon Wroten, and power forward Jaylen Henry are also receiving a lot of attention.

McCall averaged 14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals a game last season while shooting 50% from the field, 40% from beyond the three point arc and 85% free throw line. McCall is a very athletic, quick guard with a deep range. Cheyenne high school is also known for it pressing defense and every one of their players has to play defense or they do make it on the floor so defense will not be something new to McCall.

Eric Bossi of Scout.com wrote the following about McCall for Phog.net last winter.

Chris McCall — a 6-3 junior WG with a pure stroke – are just as capable of taking over a game as (Elijah Johnson) is…

…Cheyenne junior Chris McCall has a beautiful stroke. The 6-3 WG can catch it and let it fly in a hurry whether he’s curling off a pick or spotted up. He is good from beyond the three point line, but what he really loves to do is pull the trigger from between 12 and 18 feet. With quickness and some handles as well, he’s also tracking as a potential Division One recruit on one level or another.

Greg Hicks also of Scout.com had the following to say about McCall. This evaluation is about 18 months old but I think it is telling.

Chris McCall, 6-2 SO SG Las Vegas (Nev.) Cheyenne. McCall was just fair at this event – he’s got decent skills and he’s a pretty good athlete – but I wanted to single him out because he was one of the few players that played unselfishly. He consistently made the extra pass and generally looked like he had a clue about how to play the game. We’ll see if he develops into a prospect over the next couple years, but he caught my attention simply by playing the game the right way.

At this point I am not sure what other teams were recruiting McCall but, he is considered a surprising get for the Bobcat’s. He maybe the best guard the Bobcat’s have signed in a long time.

happy to see it, good for the cats. this only intensfies the rivalry with the griz, and keeping that rivalry stoked at a high level is one of the keys to reviving the basketball programs at both schools.
