Griz 2011 recruit: Phil Romback Seymour

romback

I have heard that Wayne Tinkles Montana Grizzly basketball team is recruiting Phil Romback of Seymour high school in Wisconsin. Romback is a 6-6ish combo forward who has a nice combination of size and range.

Romback averaged 17.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per game while shooting 61.1 percent from the floor his sophomore season and was named first team all Bay Conference, and enters the 2009-10 season ranked as the #6 prospect in the state by a couple Wisconsin prep internet sites. Currently he is thought of as more of a small forward who has great perimeter shooting skills but is still growing. As with most high school juniors he needs to get stronger as his body continues to fill out.

Here is an evaluation from last spring by the Green Bay Press Gazette

Phil Romback, Seymour

We are not sure if Romback will get enough love from blog voters, who tend to side with seniors. But the sophomore was one of the best players in the Bay Conference this season, averaging 17.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per game while shooting 61.1 percent from the floor.

He dealt with a double sports hernia – heck, maybe even triple or quadruple – but fought through it all season.

If Romback continues to work hard, there is no reason to believe he won’t be one of the most dominating players in the area over the next two seasons.

“Seymour has a bright future,” Goddard said. “(Seymour coach) Jon Murphy has reloaded. That group of sophomores this year that almost got to state certainly will be one of the best teams in Division 2 and the area the next couple years. Romback will lead that charge.”

NBA comparison: Chris Bosh

The schools reportable looking at Romback includes De Paul, Montana, Loyola of Chicago, Northern Iowa, Saint Louis, UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee.
