Josh Huestis update: 9-11-09

huestis3Thought I would update you folks on what I am hearing on Josh Huestis’s recruitment. This comes from a few sources, but the major source is from Eric Bossi from Scout.com who writes for the USC and Stanford scout site among others.

Josh took an official visit to USC last week end and seemed to really enjoy the trip. It sounds like a lot of his concerns about USC – they face NCAA sanctions – and its coaches were answered. Here is a quote about his trip.

“I had a great time. I got to meet all the players, other recruits and the coaches. I really liked everybody,” Huestis told SC Playbook. “There’s been those rumors circulating about Coach O’Neill and how he is as a coach and person, I got to see for myself and he’s a great guy.”

I have also heard that Josh has started hosting in home visits with college coaches. I hear Harvard was in for an official visit this past Wednesday, Oregon State was scheduled to be in yesterday (Thursday), with Colorado coming in today (Friday), USC will visit Sunday, Stanford in on the 14th and Rice on the 15th. Additionally, Georgetown and Gonzaga are trying to schedule home visits also. Rivals.com is reporting that Josh will be visiting Harvard this weekend (Sept. 11-13) but I believe the trip is scheduled for next week-end (Sept 18-20). I believe Josh would also like to set up an official visit with Stanford.

In Bossi article Josh said he hopes to commit before the start of his basketball practice.

He is a smart kid and if he can qualify for Harvard or Stanford, those should be his main choices. Gonzaga is a good school but it cannot compare with the other two.

I think 90% of the readers of my blog would really like to see Huestis sign with the Cat’s or Griz, but I have not seen the word “Montana” associated with schools Josh is looking at since the beginning of the summer. I really do not think it is in the cards. If I had to pick a school from the list we have been seeing as of late Gonzaga would be high. Great program run the correct way, a coach who looks to very happy to stay in Spokane, good educational opportunities, chance to be seen on national TV come march, and it is close enough that friends and family can easily come to see you play. Stanford and even California has some great educational opportunity also. These schools he is looking at are top notch schools both educationally and athletically. You have to be happy for josh.

As much as I like Gonzaga I don’t want to see him go there. I would much rather see him stay in state and lift UM or MSU up to the level of Gonzaga. Not sure about USC I think that would be a mistake, but you can’t argue against the Ivy league (he would be set up for life after hoops), and the same can be said for Stanford.
