Bobcat FB recruit: Andrew Mendoza

mendoza3

I have heard that the Rob Ash’s Bobcat football staff is recruiting Andrew Mendoza from Merced high school in California. Mendoza is a 6-0 185 prospect who has mainly been getting looks as a safety but recently started to get some looks as a tailback.

Last season as defensive back and Safety he accumulated 26 tackles and 29 assists. On the offensive side of the ball he accumulated a pretty non-impressive 32 total yards rushing in a back up role to an experienced running back corp. He also returned 5 kick off returns for an average 32 yards per return.

The reason he is getting some serious looks as a running back is his speed. He runs a 4.5 40 time, and is an accomplished track athlete running the 100 meters, (11.79 pr), 200 meters (23.75 pr), 4×100 relay and 4×400 relay. He has attended quite a few camps and combines this summer as a running back prospect and has turned some heads.

Mendoza is a kid a lot of programs are trying to figure out where he would fit into their program so his recruitment is all over the board right now. He is a solid student and already has a qualifying score in the SAT. Currently Oregon State, Cal Poly, California-Davis, Montana State, Sacramento State, San Diego, San Jose State, and Northern Arizona are showing strong interest, but I do not believe he has any offers yet.

Those times seemed really slow so I looked up his track stats and those times were from 9th grade.
