Griz recruit: Jordan Reetz

reetz2I have heard that the Griz basketball staff is recruiting Jordan Reetz of Fall Creek high school in Wisconsin. Reetz is listed at 6-5 on most of the recruiting services, but I am told that he is now closer to 6-6. He projected to play small forward in college, but many feel he also has the skills to play the shooting guard.

On the surface he really reminds me of current Griz, Ryan Staudacher in so much that Reetz is considered a deep and deadeye shooter from beyond the 3 point arc. He is also receiving some recruiting attention as an all state quarterback, but I am told basketball is what he wants to play in college. I am not sure if it is complete fair comparison, but in these two areas they seem to compare.  My impression, though, is that Reetz is a much better post up player, and is very comfortable taking smaller guards into the paint to use his superior height.

Reetz averaged 19 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 assist a game while shooting 46 % from the field, 44 % from three-point range (on a whopping 82 attempts) and70 % from the foul line. His Fall Creek Crickets (you have to love that name) made it to the state championship tourney, last year and are expected to be contenders again next year. For his efforts he was named to the Division 3 WBCA All-State first team. He is also ranked as the #12th college prospect in the State of Wisconsin by the Wisconsin Sports Network.

Here is a quote from his high school coach when asked about his D-1 potential.

There is a lot of talk about teams not being sure if Jordan is as good horizontally as they want him to be. But I keep telling coaches that this kid is a very skilled basketball player. The kid flat out shoots, he unofficially made more three-pointers than anybody at the Milwaukee tournament, I mean the kid made at least 21 threes in that tournament and shot over 50 percent from beyond the arc. Jordan is getting to the basket, he’s defending athletic basketball players on the defensive end. I don’t know what more they want to see because you know that they won’t get to see this in his high school season as he’s going to destroy his competition in high school.

Here is another quote from his AAU coach:

“Jordan is a kid out of Wisconsin, a 6-foot-6 kid. He played real good for us down low and he shot the basketball real well for us this weekend. Jordan is a real fundamentally sound kid.”

Prior to this spring most of Reetz recruiting attention was coming from local D-2 schools, but last spring he named a Top Performer in a Chicago AAU tourney and was invited back to the Reebok All American Camp in Philadelphia on July 6-10. Based on his strong performances at both camps his recruitment is starting to take off. Reetz recently received an offer from Northeastern, and I am told that Montana is expected to offer soon if they have not already. Eastern Kentucky has also been showing some serious interest also. Additionally Wisconsin, Northern Iowa, Wisconsin-GB, South Dakota, and South Dakota State are also involved.

It should be noted that the Griz seem to be putting more resources in the upper mid-west recruiting. Do not be surprised that with the shuffling of their assistant coaches this year that this area becomes more of a hot bed for the Griz.
