Lady Griz Recruit: Carli Rosenthal

carli4

Robin Selvig’s Lady Griz are recruiting 6-3 Carli Rosenthal from Coeur D’Alene high school in Idaho. I mentioned in my Odds & Ends 6-22-09 that Rosenthal attended the Lady Griz team camp this year and made a pretty big splash. I don’t think that was Selvig’s first introduction to Rosenthal, though, as she has been on the radar of quite a few D-1 programs from a number of years.

Rosenthal is a junior to be so will be part of the 2011 national recruiting class.

Rosenthal helped Coeur d’Alene high school to a 25-0 record last year, and an Idaho 5A championship. She was named first team All State tournament, First Team 5A Inland Empire (one of 3 Coeur d’Alene players), and second team 5A Girls All-Idaho Basketball Team. She averaged 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks a game this past season. Coeur d’Alene was a very good team the past couple of years placing multiple players including Rosenthal on all state teams. As she enters her junior year you should expect her to become more of a focus of the team.

Rosenthal is listed as center / power forward by a lot of internet sites but now that she is a solid 6-3 I think she may play the center position in college. Rosenthal is a player more in the mold of former Griz Hollie Tyler. She has a powerful inside game put can also face the basket and shoot out to the 3 point arc. On defense though she may have a difficult time guarding a quicker forward away from the paint. A lot though could depend on the college system she ends up in.

I believe the Griz have been following Rosenthal for some time. In addition I have also heard Gonzaga has been looking in on her since before her for a few years now. I do not know if the Bobcat’s are that involved with her, but I imagine most of the northern Big Sky schools are following her.
