Grizzly recruit: Carrington Tankson

tanksonI have heard that the Grizzly Men’s coaching staff is recruiting Carrington Tankson San Jacinto Junior College in Texas. Tankson is originally from Osseo High school in the Minneapolis area of Minnesota. The Griz coaches’ recruited Tankson as a high school player but due to grades he had to take the JC route and enrolled last year at perennial junior college power San Jacinto.

For Osseo high school Tankson averaged 17.3 points 4.5 assists 2 steals and 4.7 rebounds per game as a senior and was named conference MVP, first-team all-4A State, and was named as one of the top 10 players in Minnesota for the 2007-08 school year. He also scored over 1000 points in high school career, and was ranked as a two star prospect by both Rivals, and Scout.

Last year for San Jacinto Junior College the 6-5 Tankson started all 32 games while averaging 12.4 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assist while shooting 50% from the field, 39% from beyond the 3 point arc and 78% from the free throw line. Tankson is a guard / small forward prospect who has deep range, but is strong enough to take his man into the paint. He is also a very good rebounder from the wing position.

Tankson is getting a lot of attention right now from a wide variety of programs. The Griz will be in a serious battle if they hope to sign Tankson, he is also getting some attention from Iowa State, Kansas, Wisconsin, Butler, and Northern Iowa as well as trove of low to mid-majors. I do not think he has any offers yet, but they will come.
