Griz Camp: Player Attendance

grizzbb

Typically, at college basketball camps every year, coaches will hire current and incoming players to help coach at the camps. Coaches love to do this, because they have a decent built in employee pool to hire camp coaches from, and it allows the players a chance to get together in one place, at one time, before the start of the season and get to know one another and play some ball. And if those same said player happen to play some pick up ball in the evening and some of the top recruits/campers just happen to come by and want to play , so more the better.

I am just going to say this more than one college athlete has earned a scholarship offer, after playing in one or two of these pick up games.

I wander on down to the Aux. Gym last night to check out, any pick up games that just might be going on there. Since there have been lots of rumors concerning Griz players leaving and coming I thought it might be a good chance to take attendance. Here is what I found.

All three fall signees where in attendance, that would be Will Cherry, Thurmond Woods and Eric Hutchison.

Of the returning players, the only person I did not see was, Nyandigisi Moikobu. The rest of last years players including Stockton, M. Taylor, and Banny were in attendance.

There were also 3 player who I will assumer were campers also playing with them. One was a 6-8ish slender big guy with curly mop top hair, a 6-4ish very stock guard, and another 6-3 to 6-5 (he played hunched over) very wiry guard.

Derek Selvig and Anthony Johnson were there but did not play. Selvig look to be dressed out ready to play but did not. He was walking the side lines fine and had no evidence of any injury, though. I really could not tell what was up with Johnson from my vantage point.

Two players who I was looking for but I did not see were; rumored spring signee Raason Young and Iowa prep Dau Jok whom I heard was scheduled to be at the camp. I don’t think this solves the mystery of whether Young signed or not. He hails from Maryland and might not have made the long trip for just a 4 day camp. It is also possible, that both are in town, but, neither could make it to the game.

While not all questions were answered I think the picture is getting a little clearer.
