Where are they now: Update (part 1)

This post ended up being a little longer than I expected -imagine that- so I have decided to post it as two more easily digestible chunks.durham

BTW the sub title of this post could be :

Durham’s Last Class: Part 1

In the last week or so by chance, I have run across some updated info on some former or almost former Bobcat basketball player. These players were both signed in the fall of 2005 and represented Mick Durham last recruiting class before Huse took over. While Corey Davis Travis Derochowski and Anthony Jones sign with Durham, they became Huse’s players when he took over the program in the spring of 2006.

Anthony Jones: No real new news on him. Jones was a JC player from Oklahoma who was former Bobcat assistant Johnny Brown’s first and only recruit for the Bobcats. Jones had very unimpressive stats for all of his JC years, still I was told by Brown and a JC scout from the Oklahoma area that the 6-6 Brown could be an impact player in the Big Sky at the power forward position, because of his athleticism. In any case when Huse was hired Jones took the opportunity to ask for a release from his letter of intent, so he could Bolt for the University of Houston. His best friend and teammate had signed a full scholarship to play basketball their and was convinced to walk-n at Houston. Jones played about 2/3 of a year for Houston getting almost no playing time and then quit the team and left campus, and as far as I can tell never played basketball again.

Corey Davis: If this is Durham last class than Corey was Durham’s last signee of that class. Davis was a 5-11 point guard out of Salem, Oregon and committed to the Bobcats in October of 2005 and announced it on Oregonpreps.com. When the fall signing date rolled around a month later he changed his mind and told the coaches he would like to wait and see if he could get a better offer. Then on the very last day of the fall signing period he changed his mind, and asked the coaches if the offer was still on the table, the said yes and he signed. When Huse was hired, Davis wavered for a month about asking for a release, before notifying Huse that he would honor his letter of intent. A few weeks later Huse signed JC Carlos Taylor, Davis got angry and that Huse would sign a JC point (which actually Taylor wasn’t) and Davis asked for a release, and was granted one. Davis then signed with a very good JC in Texas for his freshman year, but got very little playing time. The next year former Bobcat assistant and now assistant at New Mexico JC convinced Davis to join him at NMJC. Brown left NMJC before Davis arrived there, but Davis went on to have a pretty good sophomore year at NMJC. Johnny Brown, now an assistant coach at Southern Utah University recruited Davis to join at USU. Last year at USU Davis came off the bench and averaged 4 points a game. I have just heard that Davis has quit the southern Utah team and is looking to transfer to a D-2 school closer to his Salem Oregon Home.

Part 2 Travis Derochowski
