Bobcat Recruit DeLovell Earls


kb0zi2-1128hshoopsI have heard through a source that the Bobcat men’s basketball coaches are recruiting, senior to be, DeLovell Earls of Colorado Springs high school in Colorado. Earls is a 6-5 do everything guard / forward prospect. At one time or another he this past season he played every position for his team, but played mostly the wing for Colorado Springs.

Colorado Springs finished the 2008-09 season with a sparkling 23-3 record and a 2AState Championship to boot. For his efforts, Earls was named the 2A player of the year, and the state tournament MVP. He was also one of the top players vying for the State All-Class player of the year award. Earls has been named to the 2A all state team, his freshman, sophomore and Junior year and is looking to make it a clean sweep his senior year.

EarlsEarls has compiled some serious stats so far in his high school career. His freshman year he rewrote the Colorado Springs freshman varsity scoring and rebounding records. His sophomore year he averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 blocks a game. Last year as a junior he averaged 24 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assist, and 4 steals a game for Colorado Springs.

DeLovell Earls is an athletic player who can shoot from the perimeter or slash / post up for his points. He also has long arms and is an aggressive defensive player. Here is an evaluation from last fall that I found.

DeLovell Earls (6’5” SF Colorado Springs School 2010) has started his junior season playing very well. So far he is averaging 23.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.2 steals per game. He has also led his team to an undefeated record and top five ranking in the state. He is a very versatile player who plays very hard on both ends of the floor. His recruitment has picked up a lot of momentum with his solid play so far this season.

He is an excellent student and is getting serious attention from quite a variety of schools. I hear that Colorado State, Denver, Air Force, Northern Arizona, Yale, Dartmouth, as well as Montana State are currently recruiting him, and that list may grow.

To be honest looking at his stats and evaluation it makes one wonder what his faults are that more Pac-10 type schools are not recruiting him. The more I read about him the more he reminds me of current Bobcat Eric Rush. It should be interesting to see how his recruiting develops.
