Griz recruit: John Green

JOHNGREEN

I have heard that Wayne Tinkle’s Grizzly staff is recruiting John Green of Castlemont high school in Oakland high school. Green is a 6-5 to 6-6 combo forward who averaged 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals last season for Castlemont who finished 17-9 for the season.

Green was named 1st team Oakland Athletic League player – future Montana player Will Cherry was the MVP. He plays on the Bay Area Hoosiers AAU team, which the Montana coaching staff has great connections with. I believe this is the same club will Cherry played for last year as well as current Griz recruit Thomas Frye

Green is a considered to one of the better big men in the Oakland area, but has been developing a perimeter game to go along with his inside game. He is a very similar Griz 2009 signee Thurmond Woods, but Woods is a little physical while Green is more of a slasher. Green may also have a little height in him. As a sophomore he was 6-2 and as a junior he was listed at 6-5, and this summer I have seen him listed at 6-6.

Here are some evaluation quotes from NorcalPreps.com part of the Rivals network.

Green is a combo forward who can bang in the paint or shoot on the perimeter. He is positionless right now, but he showed an improved handle, a decent shot and the ability to make good decisions. He is a player who could have a possible breakout year in the OAL.

An athletic hybrid forward that can step out and shoot or score on a post move. Definitely one of the top sleepers in Northern California’s 2010 class.

He currently is receiving recruiting interest from Air Force, San Jose St., Montana, Portland St., UC Santa Barbara, UC Riverside, Sacramento St., UC Davis, and Seattle
