Griz Recruit: Thomas Frye

frye

I have heard that Montana head coach Wayne Tinkle has offered guard / forward Thomas Frye of JF Kennedy high school in Richmond California. I have seen Frye listed between 6-3 to 6-5 so I am gong to call him 6-4, 175 pounds. He was named honorable mention All-BSAL this past season, but his recruiting stock has taken off this spring.  I have not been able to find solid info on his final stats, but I beleive he averaged 16 points a game for Kennedy.

Scout.com has him listed as a two star prospect and had the following evaluations on him.

Thomas Frye, 6-3 SO SG/SF Richmond (Calif.) Kennedy. Frye is another very interesting young wing. He’s got a big, strong frame and very good quickness/explosiveness. He’s got a nice stroke to 17-18 feet and looked like he had a clue. One to watch in the 2010 class.

Good-looking wing with strong body and above average athleticism. Pretty good stroke and solid ball skills.

ESPN gave him a 75 rating and had the following evaluation:

Evaluation
May, 2008: Frye put together a solid weekend at the Rumble in the Bay and projects to being one of the top wing-types in the class of 2010. He has a physical, yet lengthy frame to go along with very good speed and quickness. He has a very quick first step to the basket and he can handle the ball equally well with either hand. He has the ability to attack the rim and utilize his hang time and/or pull-up for the jump shot. His shot is solid with range out to the stripe, but it needs to get more consistent. He has a nice feel for the game and demonstrated that by his passing. He is still quite young as a player and needs to continue to hone his skills and savvy, but the natural ability is there to be a solid Division 1 recruit.

His recruiting has really taken off the past few months and is receiving serious interest from Fresno State, Loyola Marymount, Portland, CS Fullerton, Eastern Washington, Montana, Northern Arizona, Portland St., Weber State, UC Riverside, and Sacramento St. and the list is growing. I am hearing that Montana will be a player in his recruitment. With the signing of Will Cherry this year, it has opened some eyes/doors to a lot of players and coaches in northern California.
