Bobcat FB recruit: Michael Stead

stead2Scout.com is reporting that the Bobcat football staff is recruiting Michael Stead from Skyline high school in Sammamish Washington. Stead, who is 6-4 and 240 pounds, is an all conference offensive line man as well as defensive end for Skyline by is projected to play as an O-line man in college. On the defensive side of the ball he recorded 16 tackles and 12 assists last year, and was named honorable mention KingCo 4A Crest Division.

This week end he participated in the ‘Skills and Drills on the Hill’ combine in Washington and Scout.com had the following to say about Stead:

The biggest news of the day in regards to the linemen was the emergence of Michael Stead as a potential D1 or D1-AA recruit. At 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, he has the size to get the job done,

ESPN has given him a 71 rating and gave him the following evaluation.

This player does lack some of the height and weight desired at the major college level. Therefore a growing spurt would help him in the future. At this time in his career we feel Stead has enough athletic ability to continue at the center position. Also he can handle the shotgun snap. Shows flexibility in his stance along with good 1st step ability. Flashes explosion getting into defenders along with some ability to gain leverage on shaded players. We have yet to see him slide up to 2nd level defenders. Displays enough foot quickness to handle step around assignments. Although he is comfortable shotgun snapping, we feel his quick set and overall footwork must be improved. Does stay in front of defenders but must improve his initial punch. Does display the ability to re-locate his hands in pass pro. Lacks ideal playing strength but shows a willingness to finish blocks. Stead will not be an immediate starter, needing a red shirt year with additional time to develop his skills. Also he must get bigger, of which there is no guarantee. Playing and starting at the major college level may be a stretch but quite possibly a late starter at a non BCS school.

He is currently being recruited by Montana State, Eastern Washington and Washington
