Huse Wraps it up …… (part 2)

Part 2 the Big Men

This is the second part of a look at Montana States Men’s Basketball team 2009 recruits.

Steven Davis
6-7 Freshman (Walk-on)

Mr Davis is much better looking than this basketball but I could not locate a picture

What he needs to do. First off I am going to admit Steven is a guy I have the least feel for, so this will be rather generic. Davis needs to come into the program with the right attitude, and given his brother track record I don’t think that will be a problem. He needs to the guy who the coaches refer to as a player who gets things done. Maybe not the best at anyone area but makes an effort on defense, can rebound and score some. He also needs to prove he will get it done in the weight room which the coaches stress so much to the big men. Become a sponge and try to take in as much as possible as early as possible. Huse’s system is complex and had been the down fall of more than one new player. Don’t become that player.

Wildcard: Injury – yea kind of cop out wildcard.

Jeff Budinich
6-10 Freshman

budinichWhat he needs to do. Jeff is a scorer, he has made great stride in the other aspects of his game, but to contribute next year he will need to play strongly to his strengths, and that is his offensive game. He will also need to prove he can balance his scoring between inside and outside to be effective His offensive game will get him on the active roster, but his minutes will be determine his defense and rebounding or liabilities there of. Put another way is he a situation player of a solid backup.

Wildcard: If Johnson starts at the center position early in the season Budinich will play.

Michel Swita
6-3 6-11 Soph. JC transfer

switaWhat he needs to do. The biggest question of this recruiting class. Will he start at center or be #3 at that position in the depth chart. Brad is very high on Swita. He passed up on quite a few big men last fall to wait for him. He can clog the middle play defense, is said to run the floor very well and score, but a lot can be considered potential. Swita needs to shake off the injury bug, and the rust and prove what he can do. He does not need to be an all conference center, but prove he can play 15-20 minutes a game this first season as a Bobcat. Give us some scoring, some rebounding and clog up the middle.

Wildcard: Cody Anderson, Huse is very high on Cody, as long as he keeps his weight under control he will be a big factor in who gets minutes at center.

These six players represent what we are told as the Bobcat’s 2009 recruiting class. Brad has told that to the media and to the boosters, but it would not shock me at all if he added another player this summer. I asked Brad a week ago what he thought about the depth of next years team and he was pretty happy with it the only area that he was a little concerned with was the point guard spot, if Navarre went down to injury. If we were to sing anyone else I might look towards a point guard or big man.
