CMR’s Josh Huestis is getting Attention

huestis2While some of the state of Montana’s basketball class of 2010 stars may be waning a bit this spring, Great Falls CMR high school star Josh Huestis seems to be gaining more attention from recruiting services and D-1 coaches.

Just to review, as a junior this past year Huestis averaged 15.3 points, 11.2 rebounds and 4.5 blocks a game while shooting 50% from the field. CMR finished 21-2 this season and won the Class AA championship, while Huestis was named tournament MVP. He was also named first team all AA State and the Great Fall Tribune Super State team. Huestis is listed at 6-7 (although I am hearing reports that he may closing in on 6-8) and 210 lbs. Huestis is a very physical high school who plays hard at both ends of the floor. He has all the skills to be a very effective power forward in college, but has also been working on his perimeter game with the hope of getting some looks at the small forward spot.

Here is some video on Josh.

Since the end of the basketball season most of the major internet basketball recruiting service have jumped on the band wagon. A quick review of the internet found him in the databases of the following site/services.

It is very hard to get the Montana athletes in these data bases, most have rules that one the members of their scouting staffs have to personally see a player before they will list a player. Sometimes if you can politic a little you might be able get a player on the list, but getting more than one Montana kid is difficult. Huestis is the only Montana boy’s player I could find listed in any database. The last players to be listed I can remember being listed were Derek Selvig and Bobby Howard (scout.com and rivals.com) in 2007.

While Huestis has been holding offers from Montana State and Montana for close to a year, I am told that Idaho, Santa Clara, Wyoming and Portland State have expressed an interest in Josh. I also heard that the previous coaching staff at Washington State was also interested. It should be interesting to follow his recruitment this summer.
