Griz recruiting: Gary Winston

Winston,GaryI am going to provide some info on some players who are on my recruiting lists that do not appear on my blog yet. It is a given though that most of these player I have not heard any info on their recruiting in quite a few months.

I heard a few month back that the Montana Grizzlies are recruiting 6-0 (185lbs) junior Gary Winston from Walla Walla high school. When I say the Montana Grizzlies I think I need to clarify that I mean both Wayne Tinkle’s staff and Bobby Hauck’s staff.

Winston is a multi-sport athlete who until recently has been know as mainly a basketball prospect, but has really caught the attention of quite a few football coaches. In basketball this past season Winston averaged 15.3 points a game and shot close to 40% from beyond the three point line. He was hampered by a shoulder injury suffered in football much of the season but upped his scoring average to 19 points a game in the post season. He was named first team all cascade conference and Honorable mention all state 4A. He is a very athletic player who can score in a number of ways, and is considered by MAXPreps.com to be the #8 junior prospect in Washington. Here is what they had to say.

<edit I grabbed the wrong quote, I will try to find the right one>

In football he plays both quarterback and wide receiver, but in college is projected as a wide receiver or defensive back. He is being recruited in football by Washington and hold offers from Washington State, and most of the Big Sky. In basketball he holds offers from Portland State, Seattle University and Montana. As of last January, I t is thought that his preference is in basketball but, it is still early.

I may be missing something here (sometimes I’m a little slow), but are Gary Winston and Andre Winston two different people? It appears that Andre’ attends school at Lakes in the Tacoma area, and Gary is across the state in Walla Wall.

    Am I missing something?
